Cloudy weather forecast in Kashmir

Security forces stayed on high alert in Lal Chowk, Srinagar, on Friday morning as a precaution after protests by the Shia Muslim community over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Protests were reported in several parts of Kashmir and other areas of India after Khamenei was killed in airstrikes on February 28, which are believed to have been carried out by the United States and Israel.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

On Wednesday, members of the Shia community in Srinagar held a peaceful protest to mourn the death of Khamenei. People gathered to express grief and condemn the attack.

Earlier, demonstrations were also held in Bandipora and Ramban districts. In Ramban, protesters raised slogans such as “Tum kitne Hosseini maroge…har ghar se Hosseini niklega”, meaning that even if many followers are killed, others will continue to rise. During the protest, an effigy of US President Donald Trump was also burned.

In Bandipora, people carried portraits of the late Iranian leader and expressed sadness over his death. Similar protests had earlier taken place in Budgam and Srinagar.

Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi and signed the condolence book on behalf of the Government of India. He conveyed India’s message of sympathy to Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali.

Following Khamenei’s death, the Iranian Embassy lowered its flag to half-mast as a mark of respect.

The situation comes as tensions in West Asia (Middle East) continue to grow. A joint US-Israel airstrike on Iran reportedly killed Ayatollah Khamenei and several senior officials.

In response, Iran launched multiple drone and missile attacks across the region. Reports say the strikes targeted US military bases and Israeli assets, while Israel also continued airstrikes in Iran and expanded operations toward Lebanon against Hezbollah.

The conflict has now entered its seventh day, raising fears of a wider regional war.
