AIP MLA Sheikh Khursheed Accuses National Conference of Aligning with BJP, Blocking Debate on Article 370

Sheikh Khursheed

On the opening day of the assembly session, Awami Itehad Party (AIP) Senior Leader and MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, accused the National Conference (NC) of aligning with the BJP, claiming that this alliance became evident in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today when both parties appeared united in stifling any discussion on Article 370.

MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed highlighted that NC members seemed more concerned about shielding Omar Abdullah from interruptions than supporting the restoration of Article 370. “Instead of standing firm on Article 370, NC’s members were preoccupied with shielding their leader,” Sheikh Khursheed remarked, speaking to media persons outside the assembly.

He further criticized what he called NC’s “Shawl Diplomacy,” accusing the party of blocking any voice calling for the restoration of Article 370 and 35A. “NC’s actions make it clear they have no intention of fulfilling their promises, including the release of political prisoners besides 370 and 35A. Their strategy seems to be merely stalling for time,” he asserted.

During the session, Sheikh Khursheed, MLA Langate, was unanimously appointed as Chairman of the Parliament Affairs Committee, effective immediately.

All District Presidents were directed to convene constituency-level conventions in their respective constituencies within a period of one month. Moreover, they were advised to be in touch with the electorate and work hand in hand with the public to address grievances. The party workers were further advised to carry on their political activities within the parameters of law. Keeping in view the political situation of J & K, the party shall adopt the course of engagement to address political issues and the details will be shared with the people through media and other conventional resources from time to time.

All participants showed a deep concern on the continued detention of President AIP and MP Baramulla Er Rashid and other prisoners lodged within J & K and outside. It was decided that high-level legal defense will be arranged for the release of Er Rashid and other prisoners in due course of time.
