Minister Satish Sharma Visits GMC Jammu, Meets Kishtwar Cloudburst Victims, Offers Condolences to Bereaved Families

Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma on Friday conducted a comprehensive visit to Jammu to assess the ongoing relief and medical response following the devastating cloudburst tragedy in Kishtwar.

The minister began his visit at the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, where several injured victims are undergoing treatment. Accompanied by GMC Principal Dr Ashutosh Gupta, HoD Orthopaedics Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Medical Superintendent Dr Varinder Trisal, and senior health officials, Sharma interacted with patients and their attendants, offering words of solidarity and encouragement.

He directed the hospital administration to ensure round-the-clock medical attention, timely interventions, and the best possible treatment for the injured. Appreciating the efforts of doctors, paramedics, and hospital staff, Sharma commended their dedicated emergency response in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Condolences and Assurances to Families

Following his hospital visit, Sharma also met several bereaved families of Kishtwar victims who are based in Jammu. He offered condolences, expressed deep sympathy for their losses, and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.

The minister assured the affected families that the government stands firmly with them and pledged that relief, compensation, and rehabilitation measures would be provided without delay.

Government’s Commitment to Support

Speaking on the tragedy, Sharma said that the incident has deeply shaken the entire Jammu and Kashmir region. He reaffirmed the Union Territory administration’s commitment to supporting those affected through comprehensive assistance.

As a mark of solidarity, the minister also attended the last rites of victims held at different locations in Jammu district, standing alongside grieving families in their moment of sorrow.

Sharma, who holds the portfolio of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services, and Sports, said the administration remains fully committed to extending all necessary help and rehabilitation support to rebuild the lives of those impacted by the Kishtwar disaster.

CAPD Minister Satish Sharma Announces Relief Measures for Border-Affected Civilians Amid Rising Tensions

Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Satish Sharma, in view of the escalating tensions along the borders, said that comprehensive relief measures have been implemented for residents in affected areas, with over 7,000 people shifted to safer locations.
Speaking to reporters here, Sharma said the government is committed to national security and the well-being of civilians. “In this situation, we must respond to the enemy together. The government is fully engaged in ensuring the protection of our country,” he said.
The minister detailed the measures taken to assist border residents, including the establishment of relief camps, provision of ration, medical aid and transportation. “We have sent 15 buses to Samba and Akhnoor to evacuate people. Every possible effort is being made by the government to help those in need,” he added.
Earlier, Minister Sharma visited the injured at the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and interacted with their families. He assured them of the government’s full support in providing quality medical care and rehabilitation. He directed the GMC administration to ensure high standards of care and extend all necessary assistance to the injured.
The minister was accompanied by senior officials from the Health Department and District Administration, who briefed him on ongoing treatment procedures and support measures in place for the victims.

J&K Minister Satish Sharma Plans to Launch Local IPL Team, Aims to Boost Youth Employment and Sports

The Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, announced on Thursday the ambitious goal of establishing Jammu and Kashmir’s own IPL team within the next two years.  
Speaking to reporters, Sharma highlighted the valley’s potential and enthusiasm for sports, highlighting its ability to provide employment opportunities and boost local talent. “There is immense scope and potential among the youth here. Sports is also a way to create employment opportunities for them,” he said.  
The minister expressed optimism about hosting IPL matches in the valley and commended the unmatched hospitality of Kashmiris, particularly during the recent snowfall that stranded many tourists. “The hospitality of Kashmiris is unparalleled. The ray of hope comes from here. I don’t think we can find secular people like those in Kashmir anywhere else,” Sharma remarked.
Sharma also addressed development and funding needs, urging for additional support from the Central government. “J&K is the crown of India, and its people have suffered immensely over the past 30 years. We deserve extra funds to live in comfort. Central support is essential to overcome financial challenges,” he stated.  
The minister revealed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would soon visit Delhi to discuss these issues. “CM Omar Abdullah is going to Delhi in the next few days. Very soon, good news will be shared with people here,” he said.  
On sports governance, Sharma assured that the concerns of the 53 recognized sports associations in J&K would be thoroughly addressed after discussions with stakeholders. (KNS)
