Sakeena Masood Itoo visits Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, Reviews its Functioning

Minister of Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo undertook a comprehensive inspection of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and reviewed overall functioning of the institution.

During the inspection, the Minister held detailed assessment of various departments of the institution as well as emergency services. She also interacted with the faculty, including doctors, nurses and technicians, as well as students to understand their challenges and requirements. The Minister also inspected other allied infrastructure like hostels, administrative block and other facilities to gather first hand feedback.

Later, the Minister held a brief meeting with the Principal GMC, Director Health Services Kashmir, faculty members of GMC and other officers of the institution.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized on the need for continuous improvements in medical education, patient care and overall operational efficiency. “Our government is devoted to establish top notch medical care facilities in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir”, Sakeena said. “Our focus is on providing quality healthcare to all citizens, regardless of their socioeconomic background”, she reiterated.

The Minister assured the college administration of full support from the government.

Meanwhile, Sakeena Itoo also visited District Hospital Anantnag and reviewed overall functioning of the health facility.

During the visit, the Minister took detailed round of the hospital and inspected outpatient department, indoor patient department, diagnostic laboratories as well as other specialized treatment areas.

The Minister also took stock of the emergency services at the hospital. She also directed the hospital administration to strengthen the emergency response system and provide timely medical attention to emergency patients.

“Ensure adequate staffing, particularly in critical care departments to meet the aspirations of the people”, she asserted.

The Minister highlighted that this District Hospital serves as a crucial healthcare center, particularly for rural areas and underserved communities. She underlined that this hospital is critical to healthcare services of South Kashmir districts, directing the authorities to ensure hospital is equipped with modern medical equipment and diagnostic facilities for public good.

During the visit, the Minister also interacted with patients, attendants and local people on the occasion and took feedback from them about the services available at the facility. She assured them that our government is committed to address healthcare issues and we are determined that healthcare services are accessible, affordable and of the highest quality for the people of J&K.(Media Agencies)

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Masood today chaired a meeting at Mini-Secretariat here to assess the progress on implementation of various welfare schemes and developmental projects across the district.

The meeting was attended by MLA Kulgam M.Y. Tarigami; MLA Devsar, Peerzada Feroze Ahmad; District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson, Mohammad Afzal Parrey; Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan; Director Health Services Kashmir, Director School Education Kashmir, Director Colleges J&K and other officers of district administration.

In a comprehensive presentation, the Deputy Commissioner provided updates on key initiatives such as the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and Ayushman Bharat.

Addressing the officers during the meeting, Sakeena Masood emphasized on the significance of timely and efficient execution of developmental projects, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency at all levels. She highlighted the government’s commitment to equitable development across J&K, urging officials to adopt a proactive approach in overcoming challenges.

She assured that the Omar Abdullah led government is committed to address public grievances and achieve holistic progress.

Discussions during the meeting focused on critical sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure development, and employment generation.

The meeting also reviewed the district’s winter preparedness, disaster management plan, and healthcare infrastructure, including staff strength and vacancies in hospitals.

MLA Kulgam, M.Y. Tarigami, while speaking in the meeting, stressed on importance of enhancing healthcare facilities at the District Hospital and introducing new educational streams in colleges. MLA Devsar, Peerzada Feroze Ahmad advocated for strengthening the health sector.

Later, the Minister also handed over engagement orders to newly selected Aganwari workers/helpers.

Meanwhile , a delegation of research scholars and media graduates also met the Minister and submitted representation to introduce media studies as a subject at senior secondary education.
The Minister assured them the matter will be looked into for appropriate redressal.
