Sajad Lone Criticises Omar Abdullah Over NC’s Adjournment Motion on Waqf Act in J&K Assembly

Sajad Lone Criticises

Jammu and Kashmir’s People Conference Chief Sajad Lone took a jibe at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday after the latter had said that the National Conference MLAs had made a ‘mistake’ by bringing in an adjournment motion to discuss the Waqf Act in the J-K Assembly.

“Omar Abdullah is saying that a mistake has happened. In my tweet of April 7, I mentioned that our friends in NC are doing wrong…I remember a member saying to me that I must have got a call from Delhi, but it did not happen,” Sajad Lone said.

His comments come after there was a ruckus for multiple days in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, with NC MLAS, who are the majority in the house, tearing the bill and demanding a discussion on the Waqf Bill.

Referencing his old post on X, Lone said that NC had simply done a ‘song and dance’ in the Assembly.

“How can it happen that 50 people only make noise in the Assembly session for 3 days, they are from NC, the Speaker is from NC, and now the Leader of the House is saying that they will go to the Supreme Court?” Lone asked.

On April 7, following a ruckus in the assembly, Sajad Lone had posted on X, “If NC’s song and dance performance in the assembly is not theatre–/Why NC is not bringing a no- confidence motion against it’s own speaker for disallowing their adjournment motion. Is the Waqf bill really sub judice? The petition against the Waqf bill has not been admitted yet. So How can it be sub judice.”

“Let me tell my friends in NC that adjournment motion is a censure motion against government? It is brought to discuss failures of government. You cannot bring an adjournment motion on the Waqf Bill. Adjournment means discussion and reply by the Minister in charge concerned,” his post added.

Earlier on April 15 (Tuesday), while Omar Abdullah attended a public meeting in J-K’s Pulwama district, he told reporters that MLAS had “perhaps made a mistake” bringing the adjournment motion on the Waqf Bill as the motion should pertain to the matters of the J-K government.

“The speaker had cleared up everything on the last day. Perhaps the mistake was on the part of the members at that time that they have brought an adjournment motion. Adjournment Motion is brought only for the work of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. It was introduced because, at that time, the government had to respond. Now tell me what would we have answered if this Adjournment Motion had been admitted?” CM Abdullah had said.

Reiterating the party’s resolve to fight against the Act, the Chief Minister said that if the issue of Waqf was brought up in some other way, it could be admitted. The CM added, “We did not introduce this Waqf Bill.

This Waqf Bill was passed by the central government and parliament so what would the Jammu and Kashmir government answer? If this resolution had been brought in any other way or brought under any other law, then perhaps it could have been admitted. But now, there is a challenge in Supreme Court regarding it.” (ANI)

Sajad Lone Criticises Ajmer Sharif Survey, Calls for Focus on Progress Over Regression

Sajad Lone

J&K Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone has expressed strong disapproval of a recent court order permitting the survey of most revered Sufi shrine, Ajmer Sharif, in search of remnants of an ancient Hindu temple.

In an official statement, Lone criticized the misplaced priorities and growing regression in Indian society. “Yet another shocker,” he remarked, referring to the suit seeking a temple “supposedly hidden somewhere in the Ajmer Dargah Sharif.”

He emphasized that as 2024 approaches, marking the dawn of the Artificial Intelligence era, society has regrettably chosen the path of regression.

“And as Indians, let us be honest — we have not contributed to any technological revolution. Yes, we have the resources to make use of them by buying, but scientific innovation? No. None. Not even remotely,” he lamented.

Lone further expressed concern that the nation’s focus appears entirely consumed by an obsession with uncovering hidden temples. “And make no mistakes, a statistically significant section of the population is applauding it,” he said.

“And yes, the more educated, the more temple-searchers they tend to be. Those educated ones who should have been at the forefront of heralding the Indian tech revolution are busy mythologizing,” he added.

Reflecting on a recent visit to Dubai, Lone praised the UAE’s spirit of tolerance and evolution.

“I was recently in Dubai and saw the magnificence of the temples built there. What an oasis of tolerance and mutual respect Dubai has become. Every nationality lives there in an orderly manner. I was in Dubai in the late nineties — what an evolution. They truly deserve to be proud of their transformation into excellence,” he said.

Disheartened by the regression back home, Lone remarked, “Looking back at my own country… How we have regressed. The electoral victories have come at a cost, which have left this country soulless. This country, once defined by its soulfulness, is tragically now soulless and in search of a soul,” he added.

He emphasized that Ajmer’s spiritual and inclusive legacy represents spirituality at its finest, serving as a destination where people of all faiths converge, irrespective of religion, caste, or creed, with a unique belief in the spiritual deliverance offered by this great seat of spirituality.

Turning to Kashmir’s ideological struggles, he noted that clear demarcations existed between moderate ideology and extremism, even within the separatist camp.

“Thousands of lives were lost in the battle between moderates and extremists. Yet the moderates did not surrender. And moderates, inshallah, will never surrender,” he said.

In conclusion, Lone reiterated his faith in the enduring power of tolerance and mutual respect: “The ideology of moderation, tolerance, and mutual respect will prevail.”

Sajad Lone Criticises NC and Congress for Misleading J&K Over Article 370 Resolution

Sajad Lone

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday accused the National Conference (NC) and Congress party of misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir over the resolution of Article 370.

Addressing a presser, Sajjad Lone stated that the resolution passed in the recent assembly session ‘lacked’ clarity and failed to explicitly demand the reinstatement of Article 370 and Article 35A.

“The resolution was ambiguous, with no clear mention of rejecting the August 5, 2019, decision or reinstating Article 370,” Lone said.

He stated that the NC and Congress framed the resolution in a way that avoided confronting the controversial constitutional changes enacted by the central government in 2019.

He criticized the Congress for its inconsistent stance, noting that its national leadership recently distanced itself from any commitment to Article 370.

“Congress is playing a dual game,” Lone said. “On one hand, they want to capitalize on pro-370 sentiments in Jammu and Kashmir, while on the other hand, their central leaders say it’s a closed chapter.”

Lone also accused the National Conference of colluding with the BJP. “This is a fixed match,” he said. “Both parties, NC and BJP, are aligned when it comes to deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

The PC chief, however, admitted that his party, along with others like the PDP and Awami Itehad Party, initially supported the resolution due to insufficient time to review its content.

“We were given mere seconds to read the resolution. It was presented in such a way that rejecting it outright could have been portrayed as betrayal,” he said—(KNO)
