Residents of Sallar Anantnag Decry ‘Unjust’ Daily Power Cuts

Electricity

Residents of Sallar in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have voiced strong resentment against what they call “unnecessary and selective” daily power cuts imposed by the local electricity department.

Locals told News of Kashmir that every day they face prolonged shutdowns, while surrounding areas enjoy uninterrupted electricity. “When we contact department officials, they make excuses and claim there is an official shutdown,” a resident alleged, “but there’s no outage anywhere else nearby — only Sallar is targeted.”

The residents suspect the shutdown is a localised decision rather than an official order, and have urged higher authorities to intervene.

“We want our complaint to reach the top officials immediately,” said another local. “If this issue is not resolved soon, the public will be forced to protest. This selective blackout must end, and those responsible should be held accountable.”

The residents have appealed for immediate restoration of regular power supply, warning that continued neglect will only escalate public anger in the area.
