Kupwara Tragedy: Parvaiz Ahmad Sofi Dies After Being Trapped Inside Well in Sogam

A tragic incident occurred in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday afternoon when a Parvaiz Ahmad Sofi lost his life after being trapped inside a well in the Sogam area.

According to officials, the mishap took place at Lassipora village of Sogam, where two men accidentally slipped into a well while cleaning it.

“One of them, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Sofi (20), was rescued in time, while the other, Abdul Rashid Sofi (45), son of Abdul Rahim Sofi, and a resident of Daramwari, got trapped inside,” officials told Kashmir News Corner (KNC).

Following the incident, police, SDRF personnel, and local volunteers immediately launched a rescue operation. Despite their efforts, Abdul Rashid could not be saved. His body was later retrieved and shifted for necessary medico-legal formalities.

Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident and confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The unfortunate incident has left the local community in grief, highlighting once again the dangers faced during well-cleaning activities in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
