Detained After Law and Order Situation in Leh

According to the ministry, Wangchuk was detained on September 26, 2025, under the provisions of the National Security Act following a serious law and order situation in Leh on September 24, 2025.

The detention order had been issued by the District Magistrate of Leh to maintain public order in the region.

The statement said Wangchuk had already spent nearly half of the maximum detention period allowed under the NSA.

Government Engaging With Stakeholders

The MHA said the government has been actively engaging with community leaders and stakeholders in Ladakh to address the concerns and aspirations of people in the region.

However, it noted that continued bandhs and protests had affected the peaceful atmosphere of Ladakh and caused difficulties for several sections of society.

According to the ministry, the protests have impacted:

  • Students and job aspirants
  • Local businesses
  • Tour operators and the tourism industry
  • The overall regional economy

Focus on Peace and Dialogue

The government said it remains committed to creating a stable and peaceful environment that would allow constructive dialogue with all stakeholders.

The MHA also expressed hope that the issues concerning Ladakh will be resolved through continued engagement and discussions, including through the mechanism of a High-Powered Committee and other appropriate platforms.

Officials said the decision to revoke the detention reflects the government’s intention to encourage dialogue and cooperation for the development and stability of Ladakh.
