FIR Filed Against AAP’s Mehraj Malik for Threats, Abuse Towards Woman Doctor in Jammu and Kashmir

AAP’s Mehraj Malik

The doctor submitted a complaint at the Doda police station in which she alleged criminal intimidation, gendered abuse, and threats to hospital security by the MLA Mehraj Malik.

“In a series of deeply disturbing instances, Malik has used social media platforms to publicly issue threats and make abusive, gendered, and derogatory remarks against me. Phrases such as ‘ghaseetunga’ (will drag you) and ‘will strip you naked’ have been used openly and maliciously.

“These are not mere words—they are direct threats to my dignity, safety, and professional integrity as a female doctor serving in a government hospital. These words clearly outrage the modesty of a female public servant, that too on social media,” she said in the complaint.

The complainant asked the police to take cognisance of her allegation that the accused repeatedly used derogatory words against the complainant in his social media live videos.

“What is even more painful is his taunt — ‘This hospital doesn’t belong to your father’ — a statement that not only reflects arrogance but also extreme insensitivity, considering the fact that my father passed away more than 12 years ago,” she said.

Furthermore, the MLA allegedly entered the labour room unauthorised, accompanied by his associates and with live social media feeds running.

“This is a gross violation of patient privacy, especially for female staff and patients in vulnerable conditions, and poses a direct threat to our hospital’s security and ethical environment. His repeated actions are deeply distressing for both the staff and the patients,” she said.

Malik has remained in controversy over his alleged use of foul language in the past. On March 17, 2025, the court of special excise mobile magistrate, Jammu had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Malik in a case filed by former minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori for allegedly making false statements.

AAP MLA Mehraj Malik Reacts to Non-Bailable Warrant, Focuses on Assembly Duties

Mehraj Malik

AAP MLA Mehraj Malik has responded to the non-bailable warrant issued against him by a Jammu court, stating that it is a personal issue and he is focused on his duties in the assembly.

“I am an MLA; you may ask me about what is going on in the assembly. This (non-bailable warrant) is a personal matter. You may ask about anything other than that… I don’t want to speak on that matter; the people will look after it,” Malik said.

He further added, “Those who taught me politics will now also teach me the law… I don’t know what the warrant is. I am busy in the assembly with people’s issues… It is a non-bailable warrant. I may get arrested and get bailed. What more can happen? I have not killed anyone… There may be some minor issue; I don’t know about it.”

Despite the legal proceedings, Malik emphasized the larger issue at hand, focusing on the state’s governance.

“The main issue is that a government has been formed in J&K and what it is doing in the House… Are they fulfilling the promises made to the people during the elections?” he questioned.

Mehraj Malik won the Doda seat in the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir which were held from 18 September to 1 October 2024 in 3 phases to elect 90 members of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehraj Malik had triumphed over BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana in Doda.

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal had also congratulated Mehraj Malik on his victory during a video call, expressing that “all Aam Aadmi Party workers across the country are thrilled that we now have an MLA in a fifth state/Union territory”

The NC-Congress alliance won the assembly polls in J-K held after a gap of ten years. JKNC won 42 seats while the Congress managed to win six.

The BJP put up an impressive performance, bagging 29 seats. The People’s Democratic Party won three seats and one each by the People’s Conference, CPI-M and AAP. Seven seats were also won by the Independents.

The results of the three-phased elections in Jammu and Kashmir were declared on October 8. This was the first election in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. (ANI)

In Jammu and Kashmir National Conference-Congress alliance secured an absolute majority in the Union Territory by winning 49 seats, with the former taking 42 and the latter 6 seats.

On Thursday, The JKNC unanimously elected Omar Abdullah as the leader of its Legislative Party.

Speaking about his election, Omar Abdullah, vice president of JKNC, said, “There was a meeting of the National Conference’s Legislative Party, and the Legislative Party decided on its leader. I am deeply grateful to the National Conference legislators for reposing faith in me, trusting me, and giving me the chance to go to Raj Bhavan and stake a claim to form the government.”

He also mentioned ongoing discussions with the Congress for their letter of support. “Talks are going on to get the letter of support from the Congress. Four independent MLAs have also extended their support to the National Conference,” Abdullah added.

He also assured that the future government would work for all citizens, including those who voted for the BJP and those who abstained from voting. “We are not the type to seek revenge on those who didn’t vote for us. The upcoming government will represent the Congress, the National Conference, the BJP, and even those who abstained from voting. In Srinagar, only 20 per cent voted–should we ignore the remaining 80 per cent? They too deserve the benefits of governance. Similarly, the people of Jammu, who voted for the BJP, also have the right to benefit from the government,” he said. (ANI)
