Mehbooba Mufti Slam BJP Over Waqf Amendment Act Controversy

Mehbooba Mufti Criticizes

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti has criticized Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and BJP over the Waqf Amendment Act, saying that the BJP is attacking the “Muslims left, right, and centre.”

“The drama created by the ruling party in the assembly from the last three days, and what we saw in the Tulip Garden, is shameful. The BJP is attacking the Muslims of the country left, right, and centre. By welcoming and entertaining Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, the CM has sent a message to all Muslims of the country that J&K government supports Waqf Amendment…,” Mufti told reporters.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly criticized the Waqf Amendment Act, stating that it has caused widespread dissatisfaction across the nation.

He said, “A major section of the nation is upset with the bill and they feel that the government is interfering in their religious matters.”

“There was no need for the Waqf Amendment Act. A religion is being targeted. There was no need for the Waqf Amendment Act. A religion is being targeted…Non-Muslims are being allowed to review the Waqf activities,” he added.

He specifically objected to the provision allowing non-Muslims to review Waqf activities, questioning the fairness of such an inclusion.

He further stated, “Do you allow non-Hindus to keep a check on the activities of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board or Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board? Can they allow any non-Sikhs to keep a check on the activities of the SGPC?”

Abdullah added that his party is likely to challenge the Waqf Amendment Act in the Supreme Court, indicating that the legal route may be pursued to contest the law. (ANI)

Don’t mistake Kashmir’s silence for normalcy: Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has urged the government to address the concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, cautioning against mistaking the region’s silence for normalcy.

Speaking at public interaction, Mufti highlighted the challenges faced by residents, particularly in downtown Srinagar, and called for a compassionate approach toward the issues affecting the region.

Mufti expressed disappointment over the lack of expected changes despite promises of development and job creation. “The downtown area has been taken over by police, and people were hoping for positive changes,” she said. “However, nothing significant has happened so far.”

She also raised concerns about the termination of government employees, mentioning the case of Constable firdos, who was injured in a militant attack and has been in a coma since 2022. “Terminating such individuals reflects the insensitivity toward those who have sacrificed for the region’s security,” she said.

The PDP chief criticized the decisions taken in 2019 regarding Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status, calling them “illegal and undemocratic.

” She urged National Conference leader Omar Abdullah to challenge the decisions made in Parliament to protect the region’s special status.

Addressing the BJP, Mufti recalled the government’s outreach efforts in 2016-2017 and suggested adopting a similar approach to address the public’s grievances. “Don’t assume everything is fine in Kashmir just because people are silent,” she said. “The wounds inflicted over the years need to be healed with understanding and dialogue.”

Mufti called for the repatriation of under-trial detainees lodged outside the region, emphasizing the emotional distress faced by their families. “Bring these detainees back so that their parents can see them,” she urged.

She also stressed the need to reopen traditional routes like the Rawalapur and Muzaffarabad routes, in line with the road map proposed by former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. “If the government genuinely wants to keep Jammu and Kashmir with dignity, it must engage with the people and address their pain,” she concluded. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Criticizes J&K CM for ‘Normalizing’ August 2019 Decisions

Mehbooba Mufti Criticizes NC

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday criticized the current leadership of J&K, contrasting its approach with that of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Mehbooba said that in 2003, Vajpayee, despite BJP’s ideological stance, showed faith in Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s vision of “peace with dignity” when the PDP had only 16 MLAs. She contrasted this with the present J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who, despite having 50 MLAs, has “appeased and normalized” Delhi’s unilateral actions of August 2019, which led to the abrogation of J&K’s special status.

She highlighted the difference between a “short-sighted politician and a true statesman,” implying that Vajpayee’s inclusive approach was missing in today’s leadership. The PDP leader reiterated her party’s commitment to safeguarding J&K’s rights and identity. (KNS)

I don’t Find Any Difference Between India and Bangladesh: Mehbooba Mufti

waheed

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday termed the November 24 Sambhal incident unfortunate and sought to compare the situation of minorities in India with Bangladesh.

The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir expressed concern over the recent claims on mosques and shrines.

“…Today, I am afraid that the situation which was during 1947, we are being taken towards that direction. When the youth talk of jobs, they don’t get it. We don’t have good hospitals, education…They are not improving the condition of roads but are trying to demolish the mosque in search of a temple. The Sambhal incident is very unfortunate. Some were working in shops and were shot…,” Mufti told reporters in Jammu here.

While commenting on the controversy surrounding the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Mufti said, “Ajmer Sharif Dargah where people from all religions offer prayers is the biggest example of brotherhood. Now they are also trying to dig into it to search for a temple.”

Regarding the alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, Mufti said, “In Bangladesh, atrocities are being committed on Hindus. If atrocities will be committed on minorities in India also, then what is the difference between India and Bangladesh?… I don’t find any difference between India and Bangladesh.”

The situation in Bangladesh has been marked by increasing violence against minority communities, with temples, being destroyed after the arrest of a former priest Chinmoy Krishna Das.

The international community has expressed concern over the situation, with India’s Ministry of External Affairs stating that it is “concerned” about the safety and security of Hindus and other minority groups in Bangladesh.

Regarding the Sambhal incident in Uttar Pradesh, a mob clashed with the police during a survey of a Mughal-era mosque under the direction of the court.

Four people were killed and dozens, including policemen and officials, were injured in the violence that ensued hours after the survey. (ANI)

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti Calls Jammu and Kashmir Government to Clarify its Position on Article 370

Mehbooba Mufti

Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday called on Jammu and Kashmir government to clarify its position on Article 370 after a resolution passed in the recent assembly session.

Mehbooba Mufti criticized the government and Congress for what she described as an ‘ambiguous’ approach on Article 370 stating that the recent resolution passed in the J&K assembly ‘lacked’ clarity.

Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of her visit in district Budgam, Mehbooba expressed dissatisfaction with the resolution, stating that it failed to address the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

“The government, with its 50-member majority, should have raised its voice clearly and unequivocally condemned the events of 2019. Instead, the resolution seemed like a surrender, leaving the public with more questions than answers,” she said.

She added that the resolution was not clear and that it seemed like there was hesitation or embarrassment when Article 370 was discussed.

She also took aim at Congress, alleging that the party was distancing itself from the issue by asserting that the resolution focused solely on Statehood, not Article 370.

“They said the resolution was for statehood, not Article 370, which raises many questions in people’s minds,” she added.

She stated that such an approach has sparked widespread apprehensions among the people and called on the government to clearly state its stance on the matter—(KNO)

BJP’s Narrative is to Review IWT Treaty”: PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti on CM Abdullah’s Statement on IWT Restricting J-K’s hydel power potential

Mehbooba Mufti

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that instead of questioning the Indus water treaty, JK parties should ask the Indian government to build two power projects to solve the problem of power in the Union Territory.

“Instead of questioning the Indus water treaty, we should ask the Indian government to build 2 power projects to solve the problem of power. If it does not happen, compensation should be given. This matter should be resolved between the Indian government and J&K govt. By questioning this we are starting a new battle, we are creating a new fight, Mehbooba Mufti said.

This came after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement where he said that the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) is restricting the ability of the Union Territory to harness its huge hydel power potential.

India and Pakistan signed the IWT in 1960, with the World Bank being a signatory to the pact which sets out a mechanism for cooperation and information exchange between the two sides on the use of waters of a number of cross-border rivers in Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti further said that it is BJP’s narrative to review the treaty.

“It is said that we are not fully utilising the Indus water treatment, but whatever we have utilised and the power projects we have built, are they ours? It is BJP’s narrative that we should review the treaty. Since we have suffered a lot, the Indian government should compensate for it…Since Rangarajan Committee was handed over to NHPC, at least two power projects should be handed over to Jammu and Kashmir, she added.

“In the last 70 years, J&K has been a battleground between India and Pakistan. There have been several wars, and every day there is a new incident. Abida who was injured in a grenade attack succumbed to her injuries yesterday. We have suffered so much loss that can never be compensated, the PDP chief added. (ANI)

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Urges Central Government to Open Talks with Pakistan for Peace in Kashmir

Mehbooba Mufti

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday urged the central government to open talks with Pakistan, stating that such a dialogue is essential for bringing peace and stability to Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters at Budgam, Mehbooba said that people of J&K are the true victims of this prolonged enmity of India and Pakistan. People of Kashmir, property, and livelihoods have been devastated, she said.

Mehbooba said that until India and Pakistan engage in meaningful dialogue, similar to the peace efforts initiated during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s time, the situation will only worsen, with the common people of J&K suffering the most.

“Our poor laborers and even our doctors, who have served the community with dedication, have become victims of this hostility,” she said.

She also criticized the changing stance on dialogue with Pakistan, pointing out that mixed messages from the ruling government further delay the peace process.

Replying a question that Farooq Abdullah who used to advocate dialogue with Pakistan and has now changed his stance, she said that what can she do if one day they say talks should happen, and the next day they change their stance. “As long as these two nations are at odds, the people of J&K will continue to be crushed.”

She said that the Govt should act swiftly and open dialogue with Pakistan to stop the bloodshed in J&K.People of J&K, regardless of political affiliations, desire peace and an end to the violence, she added.(KNS)
