Kulgam Police have ramped up security checks at the Navyug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as Union Home Minister Amit Shah begins his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir today .

Officials say the measures are being overseen by Additional Superintendent of Police (NHW) Qazigund Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, with senior officers like the SDPO and SHO Qazigund directly involved on the ground. Extra manpower has been deployed, and modern tools such as wall radar systems and thermal detection equipment are now active around the tunnel area for better real-time monitoring.

The step-up comes ahead of Amit Shah’s packed schedule, which includes arriving in Jammu this evening for meetings with political leaders at Lok Bhawan, followed by a high-level security review. He is expected to assess the overall situation in the Union Territory, visit border areas, and later travel to Srinagar to inaugurate development projects before wrapping up on February 7.

Kulgam police under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam is making every effort to hunt down the drug peddlers in the district and to put them behind the bars.

In this regard, police party headed by Police Post Mirbazar established a checkpoint (Naka) at Furrah Bypass. During checking two persons roaming in suspicious circumstances after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. However, they were chased and apprehended tactfully. After checking, officers present were able to recover 115 grams of Charas like contraband substance from their possession. Regarding this incident, a Case FIR No. 252/2025 U/S 8/20, 29 of NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been set into motion.

General public is requested to come forward with any information regarding Drug peddling/anti-social activity in their vicinity and extend their cooperation to Police Kulgam in eradicating the drug menace from the society as Drugs are consuming the precious lives and career of our young generation.

Kulgam Police Act Against Juvenile Stunt Biking, Counsels Boys and Book Parents

Kulgam Police have taken prompt action after a video showing stunt biking and eve-teasing by a group of juvenile boys went viral on social media.

Police Station Qaimoo identified the juveniles involved and seized the motorcycles used in the act. The boys were counselled in the presence of their families. Sharing details, SSP Anayat Ali Choudhary IPS said, “Parents must understand their responsibility and ensure that no minor is ever handed over a motorcycle or any vehicle. When parents allow such behaviour they put their own child’s life in danger and they also risk the lives of other citizens. These acts of stunt riding and eve-teasing are unacceptable and will be dealt with firmly. Kulgam Police will take strict action against anyone who violates the law and we seek full cooperation from the community in promoting discipline safety and respect in public spaces.”

Kulgam Police assures continued strict action against stunt biking, eve-teasing, rash driving, and any activity that threatens the safety and dignity of the public especially women and students.

Kulgam Police Conducts Mock Drill at Qazigund Railway Station to Enhance Emergency Response

Police along with CAPF, RPF, Fire & Emergency service in Kulgam conducted a mock drill exercise at Railway Station Qazigund today to assess emergency response mechanisms and preparedness in handling critical situations.

The mock drill was held to prepare field forces to respond promptly to any untoward incident especially of a terror nature with quick and safe response and to assess the security response time, coordination, and effectiveness. The exercise also aimed to identify areas for improvement and streamline the response mechanism. A team of specialist officers of Kulgam Police, CAPF, RPF, Fire and emergency service participated in the said exercise.

The mock drill was conducted under the supervision of SSP Kulgam Shri Sahil Sarangal-IPS, who appreciated the efforts of security forces present in enhancing its emergency response capabilities.
