According to an official reply tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday in response to an unstarred question by opposition PDP MLA Mir Muhammad Fayaz, the government said 234 beneficiaries in the Kashmir division and 277 in the Jammu division were granted land free of cost for the construction of their dwellings.

In the Kashmir division, Bandipora recorded the highest number of beneficiaries with 109 allotments, followed by Baramulla (61), Anantnag (30), Kupwara (17), Pulwama (8), Ganderbal (5), Kulgam (3), and Srinagar (1). No beneficiaries were reported in Shopian or Budgam districts.

In the Jammu division, Doda topped the list with 68 allotments, followed by Kishtwar (55), Rajouri (48), Kathua (36), Udhampur (24), Jammu (20), Poonch (16), and Reasi (10). Ramban district recorded no beneficiaries.

At the same time, the government said 2,568 applications under the scheme were rejected for failing to meet eligibility norms. Rajouri recorded the highest number of rejections at 1,245, followed by Anantnag (286), Ramban (162), and Udhampur (146).

“The applications were rejected on grounds such as ineligibility, existing ownership of residential land, residence in forest or Rakhs and Farms areas, or possession of more than five marlas of land,” the reply said.

The government has been describing PMAY-G as a “path-breaking initiative” aimed at empowering landless families to build stable lives. The allotted plots are leased strictly for residential use, in line with PMAY-G guidelines.

The scheme prioritises rural poor, disaster-affected households, and those rendered homeless by natural calamities, to provide dignified housing and promote inclusive rural development.

J&K Government Takes Over 215 Jamaat-e-Islami and FAT Schools to Safeguard Students’ Education

J&K Government

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday issued an order to take over the management of 215 schools affiliated with the banned Jamat-e-Islami (JeI) and Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT).

According to the government order, the Managing Committee of the 215 schools will be taken over by the District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner concerned, who will propose a fresh Managing Committee in due course after getting the schools duly verified.

The decision comes as the validity of the Managing Committee of these 215 schools has expired and has been reported adversely upon by the Intelligence Agencies, the order said.

With an aim to safeguard the academic future of the students enrolled in these schools, the government has taken the decision in exercise of the powers conferred by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir through the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Rules 2010.

The order asks the District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner to take appropriate steps in consultation and coordination with the School Education Department to ensure that the academic career of the students enrolled in these schools is not affected in any manner.

They are also required to ensure quality education as per the National Education Policy (NEP) norms in these schools.

However, Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader and MLA Reyaz Ahmad Khan said that the order does not align with the government’s “intention” as the Education Minister Sakina Itoo earlier said that principals of the nearby schools would run these schools.

“In this, the government’s intention is something else, and the order says something else. The education minister (Sakina Itoo) herself has clarified in one of her social media messages that her proposal was that the administration of these schools would be run by the nearby principals until their verification. But the government’s order regarding this has come. The government is looking into it,” the JKNC leader told ANI. (ANI)
