Fresh Encounter in Kishtwar as Security Forces Continue Hunt for Jaish Militants

Attack on Army Vehicle

A fresh encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir late on Sunday night, officials said.

This is the third encounter reported in the Chatroo area within the past week. The army and police are continuing their search for three Pakistani terrorists linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad group, even as heavy snowfall has made operations difficult. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The latest exchange of fire began at around 10:20 pm. A joint team of the army and police was carrying out a search operation in the Janseer-Kandiwar forest area when they came under fire. Security forces returned fire, leading to intermittent gunshots in the area, officials added.

Despite thick snow covering the Chatroo belt, security forces have not stopped their efforts. The search operation has been ongoing since the first encounter on January 18 in Sonnar village near Mandral-Singhpora. That clash resulted in the death of a paratrooper, while seven other soldiers were injured.

The terrorists managed to escape after the first encounter by taking advantage of dense forests and difficult terrain. However, they were traced again a few kilometres away on January 22.

Although the militants once again managed to evade capture, security forces continued their operation, even as the region received more than two feet of snowfall on Friday.
