 In a significant achievement, the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) at IUST has earned a 4-star ranking (out of 5) at the national level for the second consecutive year. Conferred by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, this honour recognizes IUST’s exceptional contribution to promoting innovation and startups in the country, with a focus on Jammu and Kashmir.

IUST has been a pioneer in establishing a comprehensive framework and policy to promote a thriving startup ecosystem, inspiring youth towards innovation and entrepreneurship. The University has collaborated with various national organizations to realize this vision, achieving significant progress in Jammu and Kashmir.

Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST, congratulated Prof Pervez Ahmad Mir, Director CIED, and his team for this prestigious recognition.He highlighted that the scope and scale of operations of the CIED have expanded significantly over the years, with the success stories of the CIED-supported entrepreneurs standing as a testament of their dedicated efforts. Prof. Romshoo emphasized that the focus on the training and capacity building initiatives for youth would have a multiplier effect, paving the way for a vibrant starup community in the region.

He added that India’s startup journey has become a global success story, as reflected in the improved Global innovation ranking during the last decade. He urged the IUST team to encourage more youth to innovate, embrace emerging technologies in businesses and develop solutions to societal challenges.

In a significant development, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has been granted a license by the Ministry of Communication, Govt. of India to launch a dedicated community radio station on its campus.

The IUST Community Radio Station, FM 91.2 MHz will serve as a vital platform for conveying the university’s vision and mission, fostering engagement with society, and promoting community outreach.

The station will broadcast a range of programs, including campus news, admission highlights, student-centric content, disaster awareness, environmental concerns, and socio-economic issues, ensuring relevance and engagement with a wide audience.

Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, IUST, congratulated the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication on this remarkable achievement and extended special appreciation to Dr. Ruheela Hasan, Dean Outreach, for spearheading this initiative.

He said that the Community Radio Station will pave the way for effective community outreach and further strengthen IUST’s connection with society. He emphasized that the approval of the community radio station is a testament to IUST’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.

Prof. Romshoo highlighted IUST’s active involvement in various community outreach programs, and expressed confidence that the radio station will further enhance these efforts to promote societal engagement and economic development. He also assured that IUST shall work with local stakeholders, community groups, and individuals to create a platform that promotes social cohesion, cultural diversity, and community empowerment.

The community radio station will provide a unique opportunity for IUST’s Mass Media students to gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge in radio broadcasting. The station will also serve as a platform for local artists, writers, and musicians to showcase their talent.

University is committed to fostering an ecosystem of impactful research and innovation, said VC Islamic University of Science and Technology ,Under the DST’s FIST scheme, the physics and chemistry departments have been awarded a research grant of over 2 crores. The departments had applied in response to the call for proposals, and after rigorous evaluation followed by faculty interaction with expert panels, the research proposals were approved.
Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), congratulated the faculty from the Departments on receiving the prestigious FIST grant from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He said that “this recognition underscores IUST’s academic excellence and research potential, enabling significant enhancement of scientific infrastructure and capabilities. The grant will empower faculty and students to pursue cutting-edge research, fostering innovation and addressing societal problems.” Prof Romshoo also said that a vibrant research ecosystem is a sine qua non for impactful innovations and discovery of solutions to the pressing issues of the present and the future.
Prof A H Moon, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof Sheikh Javid, Dean of Research; Prof A Wahid, Registrar; and Mr. Sameer Wazir, Finance Officer, also congratulated the departments on the award. The grant provides for the upgradation of research infrastructure, enabling research in emerging and disruptive areas of science and technology. Under the IDP of the IUST, thrust areas have been identified for each department and assigned to interdepartmental research teams to leverage their expertise in diverse fields and realize synergy. Prof Moon added that under a concerted effort and strategic policy, the university has, in a short period of time, bagged over 200 projects valued at over 100 crores. While many have been successfully completed, some are at advanced stages of completion, signaling the commitment of IUST to fostering an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has been actively organizing a variety of outreach and mentorship initiatives as part of its commitment to fostering academic development, community engagement, and mentoring. These programs, hosted by the Department of English Language and Literature, aim to connect with the community while promoting academic growth among students.

One of the key objectives of these efforts is to reduce school dropouts and motivate younger students to pursue higher education. To achieve this, IUST has been inviting school students to visit the campus, explore different academic facilities, and interact with faculty members and scholars. Recently, students from PM Shri C.I. Dass School in Achabal, accompanied by their teachers, participated in such an outreach event. They toured several facilities, including the Library, Language Labs, and laboratories associated with the Department of Food Technology. Dr. Farrukh Faizan coordinated this enriching experience.

In addition to school visits, IUST also organized an Alumni Interaction session on applying for higher studies abroad. The session featured two distinguished alumni, Ms. Tabish Nabi, a PhD student at the University of Debrecen, and Ms. Sehrish Shafi, a Master’s student at the University of Birmingham. They shared their valuable insights on applying to international universities, providing guidance on scholarships, the application process, and research opportunities. The session offered participants a wealth of knowledge on pursuing higher education abroad.

Furthermore, an interactive session titled Demystifying NET/SET Exams: A Step-by-Step Approach to Success was held for current students preparing for competitive exams. Alumni from the 2017 and 2019 batches shared their strategies, experiences, and tips for success in the NET and SET exams. The session, organized by Alumni Coordinator Ms. Isma Hamid, was presided over by Dr. Munejah Khan, Head of the Department of English. Dr. Khan emphasized the importance of alumni mentorship in supporting the academic growth of current students. She also highlighted how such programs strengthen IUST’s role in bridging academic aspirations with real-world opportunities while fostering community connections.

These programs exemplify IUST’s ongoing commitment to supporting students’ academic journeys, providing mentorship, and creating strong ties with the wider community.

Awantipora, December 11: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in collaboration with Broadway Education Hub, M.A. Road, Srinagar, and KBITS, recently launched a CISCO program and organized an engaging workshop on Networking and Cybersecurity. The event, part of IUST’s Industry Connect Initiative led by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), aimed to equip students with advanced knowledge and practical skills to excel in the ever-evolving field of networking and cybersecurity.

The workshop featured Mr. Khawar Butt, Chairman and CEO of KBITS, a globally recognized expert in networking technologies. As a multi-CCIE and Microsoft Certified Trainer, Mr. Butt delivered a comprehensive session, offering valuable insights into networking architectures, security protocols, and emerging trends in cybersecurity, inspiring attendees with his expertise.

Dr. Sajaad Ahmad Lone, Head CSE, and Dr. Adil, Industrial Connect Coordinator for CSE, emphasized the importance of such programs in bridging the academia-industry gap and fostering innovation. Dr. Amir Hussain, Industrial Connect Coordinator for IUST, also highlighted the university’s commitment to strengthening ties with industry leaders to create opportunities for students and scholars.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) successfully organized a Health Awareness and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Screening program in Nagbal, Yousmarg, Budgam District, under the DSTPURSE initiative. The program aimed to educate the local population about the risk factors, prevention, and management of NCDs, including Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, Respiratory Disorders, Cancers, and PCOD. Participants were encouraged to adopt healthier lifestyles, reduce risk factors, and ensure early diagnosis, intervention, and treatment compliance.

Led by Prof. Ayub Qadri, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, the IUST team conducted screenings for conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Dyslipidaemia, Anaemia, and suspected Vitamin D deficiency. Dr. Faisal Ali, Senior Associate DST PURSE Project and his team highlighted the importance of healthy dietary habits to minimize NCDs The program also provided dietary counselling and information on local health facilities and government schemes like ,Ayushman Bharat JSY, and PMMVY . Local VHNCs were encouraged to promote health and hygiene awareness among the tribal population, ensuring the program’s long-term impact.

Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) made his mark in a 10-day National Water Sports Adventure Course organized by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Parwan Sansthan and Rafting Centre Pordi, on the Beas River in Himachal Pradesh.

The training, brought together 40 participants, including 20 young men and 20 women from four states across India including Mufti Ahmad, an NSS cadet from IUST who described the experience as transformative. “It was more than just rafting or building bridges, it was about overcoming fears, pushing boundaries and finding strength within,” he said.

Mufti expressed his gratitude to IUST, especially Vice Chancellor Prof Shakil A. Romshoo and all others involved for providing this platform to him including Registrar Prof A. W. Makhdoomi and NSS Coordinator Dr. Tariq Ahmad Ganie. The rigorous training included activities like river rafting, artificial bridge-building, river crossing, and disaster management, were conducted under the guidance of seasoned instructors.

Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) will be hosting its much-anticipated Open Day on November 7th, inviting students from schools and colleges across the valley to explore the university’s academic and research culture. In line with the university’s efforts to engage prospective students, different departments at IUST will showcase a range of new technologies, models, art and experiments. The visiting students will have the opportunity to learn and experience the latest developments in various fields besides touring IUST’s state of the art laboratories, studios, art gallery, and biodiversity museum, among other facilities.

Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, highlighting the significance of such initiatives, noted that they align with global practices followed by reputed institutions. He said that Open Day presents a unique opportunity for students to experience diversity, exchange ideas, and gain insights into the wide range of academic choices they can pursue and is essential in helping them make informed decisions about their academic choices and future career paths. With more than 2,000 students from over 100 institutions already confirmed for participation, Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs, said that a range of engaging activities have been curated to make the experience enriching for the visiting students. Pertinently, in addition to departmental visits, there will be a Book Fest, Cultural Fest, and Food Fest, ensuring that the students have a well-rounded experience.
