IED Detected and Safely Destroyed by Security Forces in Shopian’s Heff Area, Major Tragedy Averted

Security forces on Monday averted a tragedy after detecting and safely destroying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Heff area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT) that the IED was detected by patrolling security personnel during a routine security sweep in the area. Soon after the detection, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned to the site. Following standard safety protocols, the squad successfully destroyed the explosive device in a controlled explosion, ensuring no damage or injury occurred.

The operation, carried out jointly by police and security forces, concluded after the area was thoroughly sanitized. Normal vehicular movement was restored shortly afterward.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain who was behind the attempt to plant the explosive.

An officer said the timely detection prevented a potential loss of life and property, adding that security forces remain on high alert in the region to foil any subversive activity.
