Eyewitnesses told Kashmir News Observer that the remains looked old and partially decomposed. A local villager said they did not waste time and alerted the police as soon as the discovery was made.

Police teams soon reached the spot and began examination. Officials, however, have not yet confirmed the origin or identity of the remains.

There is strong speculation in the area that the remains may belong to Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, a 40-year-old mason who went missing during the Gandbal boat tragedy on April 16, 2024.

Despite large-scale rescue efforts at the time by the State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, and MARCOS, his body was never recovered.

Officials said further details are awaited as search operations continue in the area to locate any remaining parts of the body and confirm the identity through proper investigation.
