Officials said contact with the terrorists was re-established on Thursday morning in the dense forests of Singhpora. Heavy firing was going on between both sides when last reports were received, and security forces were continuing efforts to neutralise the militants hiding in the area.
During the operation, a major terrorist hideout was discovered near the encounter site on Monday. Several people were also detained for questioning as part of the investigation, officials added.
According to security sources, two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped. They are suspected to be linked with the Pakistan-based militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad.
The situation in the area remains tense, with security forces maintaining a tight cordon and continuing search operations in the higher reaches of the district.
