MP Er Rashid Urges Centre to Prioritise Locals for Mining Jobs in Jammu & Kashmir

er rashid

Raising concerns over local employment in Jammu and Kashmir, MP Er Rashid on Friday urged the central government to ensure mining jobs are given to local residents.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the Baramulla MP said thousands of truck drivers, tractor operators, and other labourers in the region were losing work opportunities as mining companies increasingly outsourced labour from outside Jammu and Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“The mining sector has long been a crucial source of income for people living along river belts and quarry sites. But sadly, local workers are being sidelined and jobs are being outsourced from other regions,” Rashid said.

He added that the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir had distanced itself, saying the matter fell under the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.

“If it is not in their hands, I request the central government to intervene,” he said.

Rashid highlighted that government jobs in the union territory were scarce and the mining sector remained one of the few avenues for employment.

He appealed to the Centre to prioritise local, educated but unemployed youth in hiring for mining operations.

“Livelihood of thousands depends on these rivers. Preference must be given to locals. Please, for God’s sake, convey this to the government,” he said.(KNS).

Delhi High Court Allows Jailed MP Er Rashid to Attend Parliament

First Appearance of Er Rashid in Parliament

In a significant ruling, the Hon’ble Delhi High Court has permitted Member of Parliament Er Rashid to attend the Second Part of the 4th Session of the 18th Lok Sabha (March 26 – April 4, 2025) in custody.

This decision ensures that the democratic mandate of the people of North Kashmir is upheld and their elected representative can participate in crucial parliamentary proceedings.

Welcoming the judgment, Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said:“We express our deepest gratitude to the Hon’ble judiciary for standing by democratic values and ensuring that Er Rashid, despite all odds, will be able to represent his people in Parliament. This is a momentous decision for democracy and justice.

We also sincerely thank our dedicated legal team, led by veteran lawyer Advocate N. Hariharan and Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, for their unwavering commitment in securing this order.”

The order mandates that Er Rashid will be taken from prison to Parliament under police escort and handed over to Parliament security for the duration of each session before being returned to custody. While in Parliament, he will be able to perform his duties as an MP but will have restrictions on media interactions and communication access.

Inam Un Nabi further said that this judgment is seen as a victory for democratic representation, ensuring that the people of North Kashmir are not deprived of their voice in the country’s highest legislative body.(KNS)

Baramulla MP Er Rashid Seeks Bail from Delhi High Court in 2017 Terror-Funding Case

er rashid

Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid has approached the Delhi High Court with a bail application under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2017 terror-funding case.

His lawyer stated that they have sought directions from the High Court to the trial court judge to expedite a decision on Rashid’s pending regular bail application. Alternatively, they have requested the Delhi High Court to adjudicate the matter and make a ruling on the bail.

The matter is scheduled to be heard by the Delhi High Court tomorrow.

Recently, Delhi’s Patiala House Court rejected an application seeking a decision on the regular bail plea of Rashid, Member of Parliament, in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir terror-funding case. The court clarified that, at this stage, it is only empowered to address miscellaneous applications and not to rule on the regular bail petition.

Previously, the district judge returned the case to the ASJ court after a request from the ASJ for the matter to be transferred to a designated court for lawmakers, given Rashid’s status as an MP. This transfer request was made with the consent of both the accused and the prosecuting agency, the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The district judge’s decision came after noting that the issue of court jurisdiction was still pending before the Delhi High Court. Until the High Court rules on jurisdiction, the ASJ court will continue to hear the case.

Both Rashid’s counsel and the NIA had agreed to keep the matter in the current court. In addition to the NIA’s case, the special judge had suggested moving a related money laundering case and Rashid’s regular bail application to the court designated for lawmakers.

Engineer Rashid, an independent Lok Sabha MP from Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, recently surrendered at Tihar Jail after his interim bail expired. This is related to the Jammu and Kashmir terror-funding case currently being investigated by the NIA. In August 2019, Rashid was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

During his incarceration, he filed his nomination for the 2024 parliamentary elections from jail and won by a margin of 204,000 votes, defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. In 2022, the NIA Court of Patiala House Court ordered the framing of charges against Rashid and several other key figures, including Hafiz Saeed, Syed Salahuddin, Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah, Masrat Alam, Zahoor Ahmed Watali, Bitta Karate, Aftab Ahmed Shah, Avtar Ahmed Shah, Naeem Khan, and Bashir Ahmed Butt (also known as Peer Saifullah).

The charges are part of an ongoing investigation into terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir, where the National Investigation Agency (NIA) alleges that various militant organizations, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and JKLF, collaborated with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, to orchestrate attacks on civilians and security forces in the region.

The NIA’s investigation claims that in 1993, the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) was formed to further separatist activities, with funding channeled through hawala and other covert methods. Hafiz Saeed, along with Hurriyat leaders, is accused of using these illicit funds to fuel unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting security forces, inciting violence, burning schools, and damaging public property.

The agency contends that these operations were designed to destabilize the region and promote terrorism under the guise of political resistance. (ANI)

Article 370 Removed By Prime Minister of India after consulting Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah: MP Baramullah Er Rashid

er rashid talking media

President of Awami Ittehad Party and MP, Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid on Wednesday alleged that Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah colluded with Prime Minister Modi on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rashid asserted that PM Modi consulted with the Abdullahs before making the move. He also alleged that the BJP helped the National Conference (NC) regain power in the valley.

Engineer Rashid said, “Omar Abdullah speaks of statehood, Article 370 and 35A… Omar Abdullah is running away from 370. When PM Modi abrogated Article 370, he met Farooq Abdullah 3 days before that… After the meeting, Farooq Abdullah said that nothing was going to be abrogated but it was abrogated and Farooq and Omar Abdullah were kept in a guest house. It seems as if Farooq and Omar Abdullah were on board.

“PM Modi removed Article 370 after consulting with them. All of it was a match-fixing. There is no doubt that the BJP helped NC in coming to power,” Rashid added.

On August 2019, the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

In 2005, Engineer Rashid was arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Srinagar for allegedly supporting militants and was held for three months and 17 days. He faced charges of anti-national activities and was incarcerated in Cargo, Humhama, and Raj Bagh prisons. However, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Srinagar later dropped all charges against him on humanitarian grounds.

In August 2019, Rashid was again arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). During his incarceration, he filed his nomination for the 2024 parliamentary elections from jail and won by a margin of 204,000 votes, defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The World is Watching Us Pakistan on One Side and China on the Other – Let Kashmiris Live and Give Them Their Rights: Er Rashid

As counting of votes in Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir got underway on Tuesday, Awami Ittehad Party President and Member of Parliament, Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid appealed for peace and rights saying that the power is not permanent and that JK is no ordinary region.

Rashid emphasised the strategic importance of Jammu and Kashmir, which is sandwiched between Pakistan and China, stating “the world is watching us”.

“Power is not a permanent thing…Jammu and Kashmir is not an ordinary State. On one side there is Pakistan, on the other side there is China. The world is watching us. Let the people of Kashmir live and give them their rights,” he said.

Rashid also urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, to use his upcoming visit to Islamabad for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to work behind the scenes to bring about meaningful peace in Kashmir.

“External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar should not go to Islamabad just for a tour. He should not deceive the world that I went to the Shanghai conference. He should do something good behind the scenes for the peace of Kashmir,” Rashid said.
The Lok Sabha MP from Baramullah stressed the importance of the next government acting as a bridge between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi.

“I urge that whatever government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir, it should act as a bridge between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi so that our troubles end and people live with honour, dignity and self-respect,” the AIP leader said.

Meanwhile, counting of votes for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began on Tuesday at 8 am.

The J-K assembly election for 90 constituencies was held over three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1, respectively.

The Election Commission of India said that an overall 63.88 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The poll panel said that a voter turn of 69.69 per cent was recorded in the third phase held on October 1.

Exit polls have predicted that the National Conference-Congress alliance has an edge in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
