Samples Collected From Markets and Supermarkets

Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Srinagar, Yameen ul Nabi, said that eight egg samples were collected from various supermarkets and wholesale sellers across the city.

“These samples included both loose eggs and packaged eggs,” he said. “The test results arrived late last evening, and all samples have been found to be of standard quality.”

The samples were collected during routine surveillance drives aimed at ensuring that food items sold in the market are safe and meet required quality standards.

Tests Took Over 22 Days

Officials explained that the testing process took over 22 days, as the samples were sent for detailed laboratory analysis. The results confirmed that eggs available in Srinagar are fit for human consumption and pose no health risk.

“These tests clearly show that eggs sold in the city meet FSSAI norms,” Yameen ul Nabi added.

Appeal Against Unverified Videos and Rumours

The food safety department also issued a strong appeal to the public not to share unverified videos or messages on social media.

“Such content creates unnecessary fear and panic among people,” the official said. He also urged sections of the media to rely on verified information instead of amplifying rumours or rushing to go live with unconfirmed claims.

Surveillance Drives to Continue

Officials said food quality surveillance drives will continue across Srinagar to protect public health and maintain trust in the local food supply chain.

“Our aim is to ensure people feel confident about the food they consume daily,” the department said, adding that regular checks will remain a key part of food safety enforcement in the city.

The confirmation is expected to reassure residents that eggs currently available in Srinagar markets are safe and meet national food safety standards.
