Cyber Police Kashmir has issued a stern warning against the deliberate circulation of false and unverified information by certain media outlets and individuals on social media platforms, terming it an intentional effort to incite unrest and disturb public peace.

In an official statement, Cyber Police Kashmir said “It has come to our attention that some individuals and media platforms are engaged in spreading fake news and misinformation with malicious intent. Such acts are aimed at provoking unrest and disturbing public order.”

The statement further emphasized that legal proceedings will be initiated against those found involved in such activities under relevant sections of the law.

“We caution all social media users, citizens, and media outlets to refrain from sharing unverified and sensitive content. Falling prey to false propaganda can have serious consequences. We urge everyone to verify facts before posting or forwarding any information that may jeopardize public peace and harmony,”* the Cyber Police Kashmir added.

The department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding digital integrity and maintaining law and order in the region, while also urging the public to report any suspicious or provocative content to authorities promptly.

Cyber Police Kashmir has issued an advisory urging all social media users to maintain online decorum and refrain from posting, sharing, or amplifying any content that promotes sectarian hatred or disrupts sectarian harmony.
“Cyber Police is actively monitoring social media platforms for any malicious content aimed at disturbing peace. Strict legal action will be taken against violators under the relevant provisions of the law,” said Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime Kashmir.
The SP further appealed to the public to act responsibly while engaging online, emphasizing the collective responsibility to ensure peace and unity.

Cyber Police Kashmir Recovers ₹4.72 Crore from Online Scams, Tackles Cyber Crimes in 2024

The Cyber Police Kashmir Zone, Srinagar, marked a successful year in 2024, recovering an impressive ₹4.72 crore defrauded from victims of online scams and returning the money to its rightful owners.

As per officials, during the year, the Cyber Police registered 30 First Information Reports (FIRs), with 10 cases charge-sheeted and presented before the courts for judicial determination. The unit also resolved 577 complaints filed through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and addressed 1,700 miscellaneous grievances, demonstrating its commitment to prompt public service.

Taking decisive action against cyber fraud, the Cyber Police tracked and deactivated 1,833 fake SIM cards linked to online crimes. Additionally, 150 stolen mobile phones, worth lakhs of rupees, were recovered and restored to their rightful owners.

In addition to crime-fighting, the Cyber Police focused on raising public awareness. Numerous workshops were organized in educational institutions and government offices, educating people about emerging cyber threats and promoting online safety practices.
