Cold Wave Tightens Grip on J&K, Ladakh as Temperatures Plunge Across Valley and Higher Reaches

The cold wave intensified across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday as minimum temperatures dipped sharply amid the ongoing dry spell, officials said.

In the Kashmir Valley, Pulwama recorded the lowest temperature at minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Shopian at minus 5.0 degrees and Baramulla at minus 4.9 degrees.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Pahalgam settled at minus 4.8 degrees, while Srinagar recorded minus 3.7 degrees.

Pampore and Srinagar Airport both recorded minus 4.0 degrees, Awantipora minus 4.2 degrees, Budgam minus 4.1 degrees, Qazigund minus 3.6 degrees, Bandipora minus 3.6 degrees, and Kupwara minus 3.6 degrees.

Gulmarg stood at minus 2.5 degrees, Kokernag minus 0.5 degrees, Ganderbal minus 2.6 degrees, Kulgam minus 0.9 degrees, and Sonamarg minus 4.5 degrees.

The temperature dropped to minus 5.2 degrees at Zethan Rafiabad, while Zojila Pass was the coldest at minus 19.0 degrees.

In the Jammu region, temperatures stayed above the freezing point but the chill persisted. Bhaderwah recorded the lowest at 0.9 degrees Celsius, while Rajouri touched 0.4 degrees, officials said.

Jammu city recorded 7.3 degrees, Katra 10.1 degrees, Kathua 7.6 degrees, and Jammu Airport 7.5 degrees.

Udhampur settled at 2.0 degrees, Samba 2.3 degrees, Banihal 3.7 degrees, Ramban 4.6 degrees, Kishtwar 4.2 degrees, Doda 5.4 degrees, Batote 6.6 degrees, and Reasi 6.5 degrees.

In Ladakh, the deep freeze continued with Leh recording minus 8.5 degrees, Kargil minus 7.2 degrees, and Nubra Valley minus 6.0 degrees.

Officials said minimum temperatures are likely to fall further over the next few days if the dry spell persists.(KNS).

Night temperatures dropped below the freezing point across most parts of Kashmir, with several stations recording the coldest night of the season so far, according to data.

In the Kashmir region, Pahalgam remained the coldest at minus 4.3°C, followed by Zethan Rafiabad at minus 4.1°C and Pulwama at minus 3.8°C. Srinagar recorded minus 0.9°C, while the Srinagar Airport station noted a sharper dip to minus 2.4°C.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Other key stations recorded: Qazigund minus 1.0°C, Gulmarg minus 1.6°C, Budgam minus 1.1°C, Baramulla minus 2.0°C, Shopian minus 3.5°C, Awantipora minus 3.0°C, and Sonamarg minus 0.9°C.

Kokernag, Kulgam and Ganderbal remained above freezing at 1.1°C, 0.6°C and 0.4°C, respectively.

In the Jammu region, most stations remained above the freezing point.

Jammu recorded 8.3°C, Katra 9.2°C, and Kathua 7.4°C, while Udhampur logged 3.6°C and Rajouri 2.5°C. Banihal recorded 1.5°C, Bhaderwah 2.0°C, Samba 3.0°C, Ramban 4.9°C, and Jammu Airport 8.6°C.

Severe cold conditions prevailed in Ladakh, where Leh recorded minus 7.2°C and Kargil minus 6.4°C, while Nubra Valley settled at minus 3.2°C.(KNS).
