In a strong move against the misuse of social media, Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has stepped up action against online propaganda in Kashmir. On Tuesday, the agency carried out proclamation orders issued by a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Srinagar against three absconding accused.
The court orders relate to a case involving alleged anti-national activity and digital propaganda. The accused have been directed to appear before the court within a fixed time. If they fail to do so, their movable and immovable properties will be seized strictly under the law.
The absconding individuals named in the case are Mubeen Ahmad Shah of Buchwara, Srinagar; Aziz-ul-Hassan Ashai, also known as Tony Ashai, from Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar; and Rifat Wani from Trehgam, Kupwara.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
According to a CIK spokesperson, the proclamation process was carried out as per the directions of the special NIA court under FIR No 07/2020. The case is registered under Sections 153-A and 505 of the IPC and Section 13 of the UAPA at Police Station CIK, covering areas of Srinagar and Kupwara districts.
CIK said the investigation revealed serious offences that posed a threat to public order, communal harmony, and the country’s unity. Officials claim the accused were part of a planned conspiracy linked to secessionist elements operating from within and outside Kashmir.
During the probe, investigators found that the accused allegedly posed as journalists, freelancers, and news portal operators. In reality, CIK said, they were running a hidden online campaign aimed at spreading unrest.
The agency stated that platforms like Facebook, X, and WhatsApp were misused to spread false, exaggerated, and misleading content. This material was allegedly designed to provoke street violence, disrupt daily life, damage public property, and create anger against the Union of India.
CIK made it clear that freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield for unlawful acts. The agency warned that anyone trying to hide illegal, secessionist, or communal activities behind journalism or online activism will face firm legal action.
In its closing message, CIK said digital platforms are under constant watch. Those spreading hate, misinformation, or propaganda should expect strict action, as there will be no tolerance for activities that threaten peace, unity, and national integrity.
