Omar Abdullah Says India Could Have Played Bigger Role in West Asia If Not Close to Israel

Bigger Role in West Asia

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said India might have played a stronger diplomatic role in the West Asia conflict if its ties with Israel were not so close.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at SKICC in Srinagar, the National Conference leader shared his views on the ongoing tensions and fragile ceasefire in the region.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Comments on Ceasefire and Conflict

Omar Abdullah said the success of the ceasefire largely depends on the United States controlling Israel’s actions.

He added that the conflict was not started by Iran but was imposed on it.

“If the ceasefire fails, it will not be Iran’s fault. The responsibility will be only Israel’s. The US will have to rein in Israel,” he said.

Criticism of Trump’s Statements

Taking a dig at US President Donald Trump, Omar Abdullah criticised his statements during the crisis.

“He says one thing in the morning, another in the afternoon, and something else in the evening. The kind of language he uses does not suit anyone, especially a president,” he remarked.

India’s Diplomatic Position

Omar Abdullah also questioned India’s current diplomatic stance.

He suggested that India could have played a role similar to Pakistan in mediation efforts, but its close relationship with Israel limits that possibility.

“Only Israel needed this war. Perhaps India could have played a role like Pakistan if our relations with Israel were not so close,” he said.

Conclusion

Omar Abdullah’s remarks highlight ongoing debates about India’s foreign policy and its role in global conflicts.

As tensions continue in West Asia, questions remain over whether India can take a more active diplomatic role in the future.
