J&K Cabinet Approves Passenger Fare Hike and Enhanced Allowances

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday approved a significant increase in passenger vehicle fares and enhanced allowances for ministers and legislators during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

According to sources who spoke to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), the cabinet approved an 18 percent hike in fares for all categories of passenger vehicles operating in the Union Territory. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

New Fare Structure for Electric Vehicles

The government has also fixed fares for electric public transport. Under the new structure:

  • E-rickshaws will charge ₹15 per kilometre.
  • E-autos will charge ₹25 for the first kilometre and ₹20 for each additional kilometre.

Sources said the cabinet’s decisions will be sent to Manoj Sinha for final approval.

Enhanced Allowances for Ministers and Legislators

The cabinet also approved amendments to existing rules to increase allowances for ministers and legislators.

The proposed revisions include higher travel, medical, housing, and car loan allowances for:

  • Ministers
  • Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs)
  • The Speaker
  • The Leader of the Opposition

New Faculty Posts for Medical Colleges

In another major decision, the government approved the creation of 136 faculty positions to strengthen the functioning of Government Medical Colleges in Jammu and Srinagar.

The new positions include:

  • 27 Professors
  • 109 Associate Professors

Officials said the move aims to improve medical education and healthcare services in the region.

Joint Real Estate Tribunal With Ladakh

The cabinet also agreed to allow the neighbouring Union Territory of Ladakh to use the Jammu and Kashmir Real Estate Appellate Tribunal as a joint forum for resolving property-related disputes.

The decision is expected to improve coordination between the two Union Territories in handling real estate appeals and regulatory matters.
