Former JD(U) Youth Leader Syed Amjid Rizvi Joins PDP in Budgam

Syed Amjid Rizvi, former Youth President of the Janata Dal (United) from B.K. Pora Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officially joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday.

He was welcomed by senior PDP leaders, including former minister Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Aga Muntazir Mehdi, PDP Budgam District President Mohd Yasin Bhat, Women’s Wing President Tabassum Khan, Youth Vice President Najmu Saqib, Youth Central Kashmir General Secretary Shahnawaz Mir, and Youth Budgam District President Mushtaq Zoohami, along with other party leaders and workers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Speaking on the occasion, as reported by Kashmir News Service, Rizvi said his decision to join the PDP was based on strong political and moral belief. He said he was deeply disturbed by the actions of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, especially an incident involving the removal of a Muslim woman’s hijab, which he called an attack on dignity, religious freedom, and constitutional values.

Rizvi said he was inspired by the clear and bold stand of the PDP under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, who has consistently spoken against injustice and supported the rights and dignity of women and minorities.

He added that the PDP remains one of the few political parties that continues to speak for marginalised communities and resist majoritarian pressure. He said that at a time when democratic space is shrinking and dissent is discouraged, Mehbooba Mufti’s leadership reflects moral strength, political clarity, and a strong commitment to people’s rights.

Senior PDP leaders welcomed Rizvi into the party and said his joining would strengthen the party at the grassroots level in Budgam. They reaffirmed the PDP’s stand against injustice and its commitment to democracy, dignity, minority rights, and constitutional values.
