Srinagar Police Rescue 200 Families Amid Flood Fears, Launch Helplines and Quick Reaction Teams

In the face of rising flood concerns across Kashmir, Srinagar Police undertook a large-scale rescue and relief operation, saving nearly 200 families from severely affected areas of the city. The operation came as water levels in the River Jhelum began to recede slightly, easing fears of widespread flooding in the rest of the valley.

Massive Evacuation Efforts

According to officials, the Srinagar Police, working closely with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and River Police, activated a comprehensive evacuation and relocation plan to safeguard lives. Teams were deployed across multiple vulnerable locations in the district under the supervision of territorial officers.

The rescue teams successfully evacuated families from several high-risk areas, including houseboat dwellers on Peerzo Island and Basant Bagh. Families from localities such as Bonyarbal, Malik Sahib, Safakadal, Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Guzarbal, and Madanyar Fateh Kadal were also relocated to safer places.

Operations also covered Dedi Kadal, Habba Kadal, Zaindar Mohalla, Tankipora, Karan Nagar, Kursoo, Iqbal Colony, and Aramwari, where around 20 families were moved to safety. Similarly, residents of Tailbal, Hazratbal, Panzinara-Mujgund, Parimpora Bund, Qamarwari, Rampora Chattabal Bund, Zenpora, and Tengan were among those rescued.

Quick Reaction and Contingency Teams

To ensure swift assistance to stranded citizens, Srinagar Police formed Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and contingency squads across the district. These teams were tasked not only with rescue operations but also with traffic regulation in congested areas and doorstep assistance to families in distress.

Importantly, police and SDRF personnel also identified and plugged potential breaches in embankments, a critical step in preventing further escalation of the flood-like situation.

Round-the-Clock Helplines

In addition to on-ground efforts, the Srinagar Police established 24/7 dedicated helplines to respond to emergencies. Citizens have been urged to report incidents of waterlogging, fallen trees, or electric hazards directly to the Police Control Room (PCR) or the nearest police station.

Authorities also appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, cooperate fully with rescue teams, and strictly adhere to official advisories for their own safety.

Safeguarding Citizens

The large-scale rescue mission highlights the proactive role played by Srinagar Police in times of natural calamities. With nearly 200 families evacuated, embankments secured, and emergency lines opened, the police have demonstrated readiness to safeguard lives and property.

The coordinated action between the Srinagar Police, SDRF, and River Police reflects the growing importance of community-focused disaster management, ensuring that citizens receive timely help in moments of crisis.
