Ramban Road Accident: Two Killed, Seven Injured as Tata Sumo Plunges Into Slope

Two people were killed and seven others injured after a Tata Sumo carrying nine passengers met with an accident near Senabati in Pogal Paristan tehsil of Ramban district late Wednesday night.

According to police, the accident occurred around 10 pm when the Tata Sumo, bearing registration number JK14A-9715, was travelling from Senabati towards Chunthan. The vehicle reportedly skidded off the road before plunging down a roadside slope. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

One person died at the scene, while eight others sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were initially shifted to PHC Ukhral for treatment. They were later referred to higher medical facilities after doctors assessed their condition.

Police identified the deceased as Vijay Singh, 30, son of Raj Singh and a resident of Chunthan. He was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The injured were identified as Soni Chand, 32; Anand Singh, 26; Anil Chand, 26; Naresh Singh, 24; Jatinder Singh, 24; Ravinder Singh, 24; Sunil Singh, 26; and Ravjit Singh, 27. All are residents of the Chunthan-Senabati area of Ukhral, Pogal Paristan tehsil.

Soni Chand and Sunil Singh were referred to Jammu for specialised treatment, while the remaining injured were referred to GMC Anantnag.

However, Sunil Singh later succumbed to his injuries at GMC Jammu, taking the death toll in the accident to two.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances that led to the crash.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh also expressed condolences over the deaths and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families.

The accident has once again highlighted the risks faced by commuters travelling on the mountainous roads of the Ramban region, where sharp turns, steep slopes and challenging terrain can make road travel particularly hazardous.
