A man with a reported history of mental health issues was detained after entering the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, triggering concerns over security at one of India’s most sensitive religious sites.

Officials said the incident occurred on Friday when the man entered the highly secured temple premises and was intercepted by security personnel. He was later handed over to the Ayodhya police for questioning.

The detained individual has been identified as Ahmed Sheikh, around 55 years old, and a resident of Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to his family, Ahmed Sheikh has a history of mental health problems. A family member told officials that they were not aware of his travel to Ayodhya and said he sometimes wanders due to his condition. The family has also said they can provide medical records to support their claim.

The Ram Mandir complex is designated a high-security zone, guarded by multiple layers of protection. Around 200 Special Security Force (SSF) personnel are deployed to secure the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust premises, especially during peak pilgrimage periods.
