An official said that only those Jammu and Kashmir government employees who retired on or after October 31, 2019, will be eligible for CGHS facilities. Pensioners who retired before this cut-off date will not be covered under the scheme.

The move aims to bring eligible J&K pensioners at par with central government retirees in terms of healthcare access, while maintaining a clear distinction between beneficiaries.

However, officials clarified that pensioners opting for CGHS will have to surrender their Ayushman Bharat health card, as benefits under both schemes cannot be availed at the same time.

Eligible pensioners will be required to formally exercise their option to shift to CGHS and complete the necessary procedures. This includes submitting undertakings and surrendering the Ayushman Bharat card before availing CGHS services.

Officials said CGHS offers comprehensive medical care through government and empanelled private hospitals, including outpatient services, specialist consultations, and hospital treatment, which will significantly improve healthcare access for eligible pensioners.

The government is expected to issue detailed guidelines soon to ensure smooth implementation of the decision and to prevent duplication of benefits, officials added.
