Mirwaiz Omar Farooq Mourns Loss of Lives in Ladakh Protests, Urges Fulfilment of Promises

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives during the violent protests in Ladakh.

In a statement, he said the tragedy reflects the aftershocks of the unilateral decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and downgrade it into Union Territories in 2019. He noted that unfulfilled promises made to the people have now resulted in “unfortunate consequences.”

Mirwaiz urged the government to honour commitments made to Ladakhis and take urgent steps to prevent further loss of life.
