NIA Searches Mattan Forest in Delhi Terror Plot Probe; Accused Taken to Site of Alleged Explosive Trial

The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday conducted searches inside the Mattan forest area of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir after investigators found that the main accused in the Delhi terror conspiracy had allegedly carried out an explosive trial there while preparing for a major bombing plan in the capital.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

NIA teams, assisted by Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF personnel, escorted Dr Adeel Rather and Jasir Bilal Wani to the Mattan woods to re-create and pinpoint locations used for the alleged trial of explosives. Investigators recovered material consistent with an attempted blast experiment, including a damaged gas cylinder at one of the spots, sources told reporters. The searches are part of a wider probe into the “white-collar” terror module linked to the Red Fort car-bombing.

Officials say the test in J&K indicates the attack was not entirely improvised in Delhi but was preceded by field trials and laboratory work elsewhere. Earlier probe developments had already revealed that the main accused identified with the vehicle that detonated — Dr Umar Un Nabi — had prepared explosives and tested components at multiple locations, including a secret lab and safe houses, and had access to technical inputs and materials accumulated over months. Investigators allege the module stockpiled precursor chemicals and raised funds among associates to finance the plot.

Phone and digital forensics have been central to the unfolding case. Data extracted from devices seized during raids show searches and queries related to CRPF deployments in the valley and to Article 370, officials said, prompting deeper scrutiny of the suspects’ motives and target selection. Agencies are analysing call logs, travel histories and messaging app traces to map the network that allegedly supplied the bomber with explosives, shelter and logistics.
