The Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) said the decision was taken due to adverse weather conditions and heavy snow accumulation at the high-altitude pass, which has made the road unsafe for movement.

“All traffic on Mughal Road is hereby stopped with immediate effect due to fresh snowfall at Pir Ki Gali. The restriction will remain in force until further notice,” the SSP Traffic said.

The Mughal Road is a crucial link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region. The road often remains closed during winter because of heavy snowfall and slippery conditions in the upper reaches.

Traffic authorities have advised commuters and transporters to avoid planning travel on the Mughal Road until an official clearance is issued. They said further updates on the restoration of traffic will be shared after a detailed assessment of weather and road conditions.

Meanwhile, residents of adjoining areas have been urged to remain cautious and strictly follow advisories issued by the administration as snowfall continues in higher reaches.
