According to Kashmir News Service, a group of parents submitted a memorandum requesting organised evacuation, citing growing fear, lack of communication, and uncertainty on the ground.
“We Have No Contact With Our Children”
Speaking to KNS, the mother of a student currently in Iran said the situation has become deeply distressing.
“The situation in Iran is not good. The internet is not working, and we have no proper communication with our children. We are extremely scared. The advisory from the Indian Embassy has made us even more worried,” she said.
“We appeal to the authorities to help bring our children back safely.”
Another parent appealed directly to national and local leadership.
“We request the Prime Minister, the External Affairs Minister, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Lieutenant Governor to evacuate our children from Iran as soon as possible,” the parent said.
Embassy Advisory Adds to Anxiety
Parents said their concerns intensified after the Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an advisory urging Indian nationals — including students, pilgrims, and tourists — to leave Iran using available commercial options.
However, families say this advice is difficult to follow due to severe practical challenges.
“They are asking students to make their own travel arrangements and contact parents,” one parent said. “But communication is extremely difficult. We can only reach our children through ISD calls, and even that is unreliable.”
Parents urged both Union Territory and central authorities to arrange a coordinated evacuation, rather than leaving students to manage on their own.
Internet Shutdown Makes Travel Nearly Impossible
Another mother highlighted how the internet shutdown in Iran has made the situation even more alarming.
“Even if we try to book tickets, nothing can be finalised without internet access. It is almost impossible for our children to manage this alone. They must be evacuated immediately,” she said.
Government Response and Monitoring
The issue was earlier raised by Omar Abdullah, who confirmed that he had discussed the evolving situation with S. Jaishankar.
Omar Abdullah stated that the government is closely monitoring developments and that the Ministry of External Affairs is preparing a comprehensive plan to address the situation. He also appreciated the ministry’s proactive approach and assurances regarding the safety of Indian citizens from Jammu and Kashmir in Iran.
Nodal Officer Appointed
In response, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has appointed Anil Sharma, Additional Resident Commissioner of the J&K Government in New Delhi, as the nodal officer to coordinate matters related to the safety and welfare of residents and students from the Union Territory currently in Iran.
Parents hope the authorities will act swiftly, saying every passing day adds to their fear and uncertainty. They continue to appeal for an organised evacuation before the situation worsens further.
