Budgam Police File FIR Against ‘Kashmir Speaks’ Facebook Page for Spreading False and Misleading Information

A senior police official from Budgam said that on August 26, 2025, Police Station Khansahib registered FIR No. 165/2025 under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning the death of a horse in the village of Rakhai. As per him the investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute between the involved parties.
“On September 5, 2025, it was brought to our attention that the aforementioned Facebook page had published false claims suggesting that the horse was killed for its meat to be sold in the market at Arizal, thus inciting unnecessary fear and panic among the local community,” he said.
The official said that an FIR No. 187/2025 under Section 353(2) of BNS has been registered at Police Station Khansahib and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the general public commended Budgam Police for taking appropriate action against unregistered Facebook pages that are instigating panic in the community.
The general public urged government to take necessary measures against those spreading fake news on social media platforms while claiming to be “media persons” and “harassing people.”
Budgam Police appealed public and social media users to avoid sharing or disseminating unverified and false information that could disrupt public peace and tranquillity. Police said strict legal action will be initiated against those found involved in such activities.
