Jammu and Kashmir Shuts Schools and Colleges Amid Heavy Rainfall and Flood Threat

In view of the worsening weather conditions, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the closure of all educational institutions across the Union Territory tomorrow (Thursday).

Health and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo told Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that schools and colleges will remain closed as a precautionary measure.

The decision comes as continuous heavy rainfall has triggered a flood-like situation in several parts of J&K. Officials said the water level in river Jhelum and other streams has crossed the flood declaration mark in Kashmir, while rivers in the Jammu division are flowing above the danger mark.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary movement, while disaster management teams continue to monitor the situation closely.
