International Women’s Day Celebrated at BGSBU Rajouri With Panel Discussion and Student Events

Rajouri: The NSS Unit of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm on the university campus on Monday. The event focused on promoting women’s empowerment, gender equality, and the important role of women in society.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Zaheer Abbas, Programme Officer of NSS, who highlighted the importance of the day. He stressed the need to respect, empower, and support women in every field of life and said that educational institutions play an important role in spreading awareness about gender equality and dignity for women. On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal shared his message, stating that women are the backbone of society and their empowerment is essential for sustainable development and social progress. He added that universities must help create an environment of equality, respect, and opportunities for women. He also appreciated the contributions of women in academia, research, administration, and nation-building.

Registrar Shri Abhishek Sharma, IAS, also shared his message, highlighting the need to create inclusive spaces in educational institutions where women can grow and contribute meaningfully. He praised the efforts of the NSS Unit for organising such an important programme and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting gender equality through education and awareness.

A panel discussion was organised during the event featuring Dr. Javid Iqbal (NSS Coordinator), Dr. Zaheer Abbas, Dr. Shreekar Pant, Dr. Mamta Bhat, Dr. Marya Aslam, Dr. Sachi Sood, and Dr. Sharut Sharma. The panelists discussed women’s rights, empowerment, and the challenges faced by women in modern society. They encouraged students to help build a more inclusive and equal society.

Students from different departments actively participated in the programme and delivered speeches on the role of women in nation-building, education, and social progress.

Several activities and competitions were also held, including speech competitions, poster-making, singing, poetry recitation, and essay writing, which saw enthusiastic participation from both male and female students.

During the event, several female faculty members were honoured for their valuable contributions to education and society, adding special significance to the celebration.
