Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Inaugurates Divya Kala Mela to Empower Divyangjan at Gulshan Ground

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar today inaugurated the 11-day long Divya Kala Mela, a unique initiative of Government of India towards the economic empowerment of Divyangjan, at Gulshan Ground.

Divya Kala Mela being organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in collaboration with the National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) showcased the extraordinary talent, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs, and artists from across J&K UT and various other States and UTs.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor expressed gratitude to Government of India and all the stakeholders associated with the noble endeavour. He said the Divya Kala Mela reflects the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s commitment to make Divyangjan economically empowered and self-reliant.

Reiterating his resolve to bring qualitative change in the lives of Divyangjan, the Lieutenant Governor said the Union Territory of J&K is committed to create a conducive environment to provide equal opportunities and protect rights of Divyangjan.

“I always believe in God’s gift and doing good for others. I have made administration’s primary goal to take steps that will lead to mainstreaming of Divyangjan in society.

In 2020 I had introduced a multi-faceted approach in Administration so that Divyangjan can realise their potential and become active participants in the development process”, the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the dedicated efforts made by the J&K Administration to make assistive devices accessible to differently abled.

“I want to make sure every Divyangjan has access to Assistive Equipments that empowers them and minimizes the disability impact.

Devices like hearing aids, wheel chairs, limb prosthetics and motorised Scooty, which improve functional capacity and help the differently abled to live independently has been made available to them in far flung areas of Union Territory,” the Lieutenant Governor further added.

The Lieutenant Governor urged the individual and social service organisations to help Divyangjan in procuring suitable devices as per their needs.

He also urged the innovators of J&K UT to invent more user-friendly aids and devices for Divyangjan with the help of modern technology.

The Lieutenant Governor directed the Social Welfare Department to work on mission mode for skilling of Divyangjans.

He further shared the dedicated measures taken by the administration to encourage the private sector to provide employment opportunities to Divyangjan and the necessary changes made in the reservation policy in government jobs based on various benchmarks.

The Lieutenant Governor urged the Union Minister for organizing mega fair for Divyangjan in Jammu division and Kashmir division.

He also thanked the Union Minister for his assurance to provide a platform for the Divyang Artisans and Entrepreneurs of J&K in fairs in other parts of the country.

The Lieutenant Governor and the Union Minister visited the stalls set up by Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs, various government institutions and civil society groups. They also handed over mobility devices and sanction letters to the beneficiaries.

The Lieutenant Governor assured all the support and necessary handholding by the administration to the participating artisans and entrepreneurs in scaling-up their business and marketing of their products.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated ‘BRICS Youth Council Entrepreneurship Run-up Event’ at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the Global Counter Terrorism Council (GCTC), IIM Jammu and all other associate departments for providing a dynamic platform for innovators, aspiring entrepreneurs, youth leaders to showcase innovative business ideas and entrepreneurial initiatives.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the transformative initiatives of the government through the Department of Industries & Commerce that have redefined innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and empowering youth of the UT.

“In the past few years J&K’s Industrial ecosystem has witnessed an unprecedented surge, supporting the culture of innovation, research & development and scientific advancements. I want to see our youth among top-notch entrepreneurs of the country, contributing to its growth,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He said the sincere efforts and policy interventions of the government have made J&K a vibrant startup hub.

The Lieutenant Governor also shared the key initiatives including Mission Yuva to develop a business support ecosystem for the enterprising youth of J&K. He said, reforms are being made in the education sector with a dedicated focus on skilling the youth in the technology of Industry 4.0.

“We continue to focus on policies to promote incubation centres and to provide better resources and support to set up new startups. I want our youth to dream, dedicate and develop dynamic J&K and propel its growth trajectory to new heights,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor further emphasised on the need to bridge academia-industry disconnect to meet the future challenges. He said the human resources should be equipped with the skills required by the market and industries.

He said the Youth entrepreneurship mission today is important not only for India but the entire world and the countries from both Global North and Global South are looking at their massive demographic dividend to meet the biggest developmental challenges of 21st century.

Speaking on the industrial revolution taking place in the UT of Jammu Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor said the result of the Central Sector Industrial Development Scheme is now visible in J&K.

The Lieutenant Governor also emphasized on the role of educational institutions and youth in developing India as knowledge economy and realising the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Prof. BS Sahay, Director IIM Jammu shared the vision of IIM Jammu to develop the youth as business leaders and entrepreneurs.

A detailed presentation highlighting the key objectives of Mission Yuva was also presented on the occasion.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Promotes Organ Donation, Joins Donor List

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his gratitude to voluntary organ donors and called upon the public to join the noble cause of organ and tissue donation. Attending a program organized by Bharatiya Jain Sangathan J&K under SS Jain Sabha J&K, he requested the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization to add his name to the donors’ list.

Emphasizing the importance of organ donation, he called for collective efforts to make transplants affordable and accessible using modern technology. The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the need for permanent help-desks in hospitals to provide information and counter myths surrounding organ donation. He encouraged the youth to imbibe the ideals of Lord Mahavir and dedicate themselves to humanity’s service.

The program also saw the launch of initiatives like ‘BJS Khilona Bank’ to provide educational toys to underprivileged children and ‘BJS Moksh Path’ to promote organ donation.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today addressed the Annual Day Function of JS Group of Institutions at Varanasi. He congratulated and extended his best wishes to the management, teachers, students and everyone associated with the JS Group of Institutions.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the critical role of Science and Technology for a brighter future of India. He emphasised that modern education must touch every person of society for progress and prosperity of all.

Education is the process of self-discovery. It is the art of sculpting individuality. Education not only trains the individual in a specific skill and knowledge, but also develops the latent intellectual, artistic and humanitarian abilities,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor also spoke on the revolutionary changes taking place, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in various sectors including education, industry and technology.

Today’s classroom will give a new shape to tomorrow’s factory. It is the responsibility of our educational institutions to collaborate with Industries and prepare smart technical professionals for the smart factories, he said.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor commended the contribution of JS Group of Institutions in education sector. He also inaugurated the Administrative Block of JS Public School, Sadhoganj, Varanasi.
