    Increased rainfall, particularly in southern and higher-altitude areas like Shopian, Kulgam, and Pahalgam. Daytime temperatures around 26–30°C. Possibility of waterlogging in Srinagar’s low-lying areas.
  • Ladakh:
    Partly cloudy with brief rain in isolated pockets such as Nubra and Zanskar. Temperatures remain stable, though cold winds may make nights feel cooler in high-altitude zones.

  • Jammu Region:
    Hot and humid again with temperatures bouncing back to 33–36°C. Afternoon thunderstorms and scattered rain showers are likely, with heavy rain predicted in Doda and Kishtwar.
  • Kashmir Valley:
    On-and-off showers will persist with occasional sunshine. Gulmarg and Sonamarg may experience light rain, possibly affecting trekking and tourist movement. Daytime temperatures steady between 27–31°C.
  • Ladakh:
    Predominantly dry. Clear to partly cloudy skies in most areas, with mild winds expected in Pangong and Changthang. Day temperatures range from 23–29°C.

Heavy Rains Trigger Landslides in Rajouri and Reasi; 3 Dead, Schools Shut, Houses Damaged

Landslides in Rajouri

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past three days in the Kalakote division of Rajouri district has triggered multiple landslides, resulting in significant property damage, road blockades, and the closure of schools. At least 25 houses have been damaged so far, and emergency services are working around the clock to manage the unfolding crisis.

Assistant Development Commissioner (ADC) Kalakote, Tanveer Hussain Khan, confirmed the damage and said that control rooms have been set up to assist affected residents.

“People have suffered heavy losses. As this is a hilly area, landslides have caused severe damage. We have evacuated residents to rehabilitation centres in Kalakote. Schools remain shut for the second consecutive day,” he said.

Teams from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are actively working to clear debris and repair roads, many of which remain blocked due to landslides. Residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid traveling through landslide-prone zones.

A local shopkeeper from Kalakote appealed for help:

“After the landslide, debris fell on many shops. Several poor families have lost everything. The government must announce compensation for the victims,” he said.


Reasi Tragedy: Two Labourers Killed in Landslide

Meanwhile, a deadly landslide struck early Wednesday morning in Badora under the Mahore sub-division of Reasi district, killing two labourers and injuring another.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the incident occurred around 2 am, when a sudden landslide buried a tent at a construction site related to the Badora Shiva Cave pilgrimage.

The victims were identified as:

  • Ravi Kumar (23), son of Parshotam Kumar, resident of Channi, Udhampur
  • Rashpal Singh (26), son of Soba Ram, resident of Tuli Kalaban, Reasi

The injured labourer was rushed to Mahore Hospital and is currently under treatment.


Earlier Incident in Poonch: 5-Year-Old Killed in School Landslide

This is the third landslide-related fatality in recent days. On July 21, a landslide in Bainch village of Poonch district struck a local school, resulting in the death of a 5-year-old student and injuring four other children and a teacher.

Medical Officer Dr Ishfaq Ahmad, speaking to ANI, confirmed:

“One child was brought in dead, four others had minor injuries and are under observation. The teacher was also injured but is in stable condition.”


Relief and Rescue Efforts Underway

The administration in all affected areas has deployed rescue teams, medical staff, and disaster response units. Authorities are assessing damage for compensation and relief distribution, while rehabilitation centres have been set up to accommodate displaced families.

The Met Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast and advisory for Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the forecast, the region can expect intermittent spells of light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds at many places from July 22-23, with intense showers and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated to scattered places in the Jammu division.

On July 24, the region is expected to remain generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, with intense showers and heavy rain at isolated places.

The advisory warns of the possibility of intense showers, gusty winds, and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated to scattered places in J&K during July 22-24, which may lead to flash floods at vulnerable places, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones.

There may also be a rise in water levels in rivers, streams, and local nallas, with water logging in low-lying areas.Farmers are advised to suspend farm operations during July 22-24 due to the weather conditions.

Heavy Rains Damage Houses, Madrasa in Mendhar’s Sanjyot Ward; Locals Blame Poor Safety Measures

Several houses were damaged, partially or substantially, as heavy rains lashed Mendhar area of Poonch district last night, locals and officials said on Friday.

They said the most affected area remained Panchayat Sanjyot’s Ward No. 4 where at least six residential houses and a madrasa (educational institution) suffered damage. According to locals, rains led to land subsidence amid ongoing construction of four-way road through the area.

The damaged could have been substantially prevented had a protective wall been constructed by the authorities, they added.

Confirming the damage to some structures, officials told GNS that assessment will be carried out soon. “While there are reports about damage to some structures but exact damage is not known yet and would be known after assessment,” they added. (GNS)

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Wednesday predicted heavy rains across Jammu and Kashmir, possibly triggering flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones at vulnerable places over the next eight days, from July 16 to 23.

As per the forecast, Jammu and Kashmir on 18 to 20 July is expected to receive intermittent spells of light to moderate Rain/thundershower at many places with intense showers at few places with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places of J&K.

On 18 to 20 July, there will be spells of light to moderate rain/thundershower at scattered to fairly widespread places. On 21 to 23 July, weather is predicted to remain generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain/thundershower at many places with intense showers at few places with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places of J&K.

Meteorological Centre Srinagar, in its advisory issued on Wednesday, cautioned the people that possibility of intense showers in J&K during 16-17 & 21-23rd July could trigger flash floods, landslides/mudslides & shooting stones at few vulnerable places.

Heavy Rains Lash J&K: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued, Public Advised to Stay Away from Water Bodies

After a recent rise in maximum temperatures, the mercury has once again plummeted across the valley, with several parts recording rainfall on Monday. The weather department here has predicted continued wet weather until 17 July.

The recent rains further lowered temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yellow and Orange alerts have been issued for J&K for the next week. “For Jammu division, an Orange alert has been issued. There is a possibility of isolated heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until 16 July,” the details reveal. A Yellow alert has been issued for the division from 18 to 20 July.

The Yellow alert has also been issued for the Kashmir division for the next seven days.

Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, told KNO that generally cloudy weather is expected, with the possibility of intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, with intense showers and heavy rain at a few locations until 17 July.

He said that fresh spells of rain and thundershowers are expected at scattered places from 18 to 21 July.

Moreover, the MeT has issued an advisory saying that there is a possibility of intense showers at a few places in J&K, with heavy rain expected at isolated locations in Jammu division from July 14 to 17.

It added that flash floods are expected at vulnerable sites, along with landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar district administration has issued a weather advisory in view of the forecast of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds from 14 July (today) to 17 July across parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar.

Officials have advised residents, especially those living near the Jhelum River, its tributaries, and nearby streams, to stay away from water bodies during this period.

The advisory issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Office of the District Magistrate Srinagar, states that in light of the forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms with strong winds, tourists, Shikara riders, sand extractors, and boat operators are advised to avoid travel on Dal Lake, the Jhelum River, and other water bodies until weather conditions improve.

Srinagar Records Highest July Temperature in Over 70 Years

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday surpassed the previous records of over 70 years by witnessing the season’s highest temperature at 37.4 degree Celsius.

According to details available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), at 37.4 degree Celsius, Srinagar has recorded the highest July temperature since 1953.

It is also the 3rd highest July temperature since 1892,” an independent weather forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng told said.
