Speaking to Kashmir News Trust, the owner said the houseboat was worth more than ₹2 crore and suffered total damage in the incident. He added that no tourists were inside the houseboat at the time of the fire, which helped avoid any loss of life.
Soon after the fire broke out, teams from the State Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services Department, Central Reserve Police Force, and local police rushed to the spot and launched a firefighting operation. Officials said the fire was brought under control after sustained efforts.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials said an electrical short circuit appears to be the preliminary cause, as stated by the houseboat owner.
