Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) organized a symposium on Gandhian Philosophy on September 30, 2025, as part of the ongoing Seva Parv celebrations. In his message, Sh. Abhishek Sharma, IAS, Registrar BGSBU, emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy continues to serve as a guiding light for society. He underlined the timeless relevance of Gandhiji’s ideals in nurturing responsible, value-driven youth, and stressed that principles such as truth, non-violence, and selfless service are more important today than ever before in addressing the challenges of the modern world. He further noted that universities and academic institutions have a special responsibility to inculcate these values among students so they may contribute positively to nation-building.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Zaheer Abass, Department of Mathematical Sciences. The symposium witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 20 students representing various departments of the University. Dr. Danish Iqbal, Nodal Officer of the Seva Parv program, congratulated the participants for their commendable performances. The event was evaluated by Dr. Romina Rashid, Senior Faculty, Department of English, and Ms. Mamta Choudhary, Faculty, Department of Management Studies.
Several senior faculty members also shared their scholarly insights on Gandhiji’s philosophy and its relevance in contemporary times. Among the key speakers were Dr. Malik Mubashar Hassan, Dr. Romina Rashid, Dr. Sacchi Sood, and Dr. Tanveer. Their deliberations emphasized the enduring significance of Gandhian values such as truth, non-violence, simplicity, and self-reliance in addressing present-day social and moral challenges.
The symposium concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shafqat Mughal, Principal, University Polytechnic, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, and the organizing committee for their contributions in making the event a success.
