Address by Tariq Hameed Karra

JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra addressed party workers and block presidents during the programme. In his speech, Karra highlighted the Congress party’s long-standing commitment to:

  • Nation-building
  • Public service
  • Empowerment of people
  • Unity and harmony

He said these values have always guided the Congress party and continue to shape its approach towards both India and Jammu and Kashmir.

Karra reminded party workers that the Congress has consistently stood for democracy, the Constitution, and equal rights for all citizens, even during difficult political times.

Role of Congress in India’s History

Leaders at the event spoke about the Congress party’s contribution to India’s freedom movement, including its leadership in the struggle against British rule. They recalled how the party later played a key role in:

  • Drafting and upholding the Indian Constitution
  • Strengthening democratic institutions
  • Promoting secularism and social justice
  • Supporting the rights of states and people

The speakers said that despite challenges, the Congress continues to raise issues related to employment, education, farmers, minorities, and marginalised communities.

Block Presidents’ Conference

During the programme, Karra also chaired the monthly Block Presidents’ Conference. He reviewed the activities carried out by different blocks across Jammu and Kashmir.

He urged block presidents to:

  • Remain closely connected with people
  • Understand local issues
  • Strengthen the party at the grassroots level
  • Prepare actively for future political challenges

He stressed that the strength of the Congress lies in its workers and its connection with ordinary citizens.

Certificates Distributed to Party Workers

As part of the event, appreciation certificates were distributed among block presidents and party workers from the Kashmir region. These certificates were given to those who actively participated in the party’s movement “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq”, which demands the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Party leaders said the movement reflects the Congress party’s stand for democratic rights and federal structure.

Discussions on Future Plans

The programme concluded with discussions on organisational work and future strategies at the block level. Leaders discussed ways to strengthen the party structure, improve coordination, and expand outreach among youth and common people.

Conclusion

The 140th Foundation Day celebration in Srinagar served as a reminder of the Congress party’s long journey, its sacrifices, and its continued role in Indian politics. Party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values, people’s welfare, and the demand for restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

The event ended with a resolve to take forward the Congress ideology of unity, justice, and service to the people.
