Omar Abdullah Announces Ex-Gratia Relief for Kishtwar Cloudburst Victims, Assures Long-Term Rehabilitation Measures

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Chashoti village in Kishtwar to review the devastation caused by a cloudburst and flash floods along the Machail Mata Yatra route. The disaster claimed at least 60 lives and left many others missing. Omar Abdullah met with affected families, assured immediate support, and personally oversaw ongoing rescue and relief operations in the area.

Announcing ex-gratia relief from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Abdullah declared ₹2 lakh for the families of each deceased, ₹1 lakh for the severely injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries. For property damage, ₹1 lakh was allocated for fully damaged houses, ₹50,000 for severely damaged ones, and ₹25,000 for partially damaged structures. The Chief Minister said that the assistance aimed to provide immediate relief to those grappling with sudden loss and destruction.

In addition to financial aid, Omar Abdullah promised long-term rehabilitation measures for the victims. He emphasised the need for scientific mapping of vulnerable regions and committed to strengthening disaster-management infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. His assurance highlighted the government’s intent to not only respond to the tragedy but also to build resilience against future natural calamities in the region.
