CIK Detains Kashmiri Doctor and Wife, Probing Alleged Dukhtaran-e-Millat Links and Unlawful Online Activities
The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday detained a doctor and his wife following coordinated searches at four locations across Kashmir in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged unlawful online activities.
A police official stated that the raids were conducted in Srinagar, Kulgam, and Anantnag under court-issued search warrants. The operation forms part of a continuing crackdown on social media users allegedly working in coordination with handlers across the border to promote terrorist, secessionist, and separatist content, spread disinformation, and incite public disorder.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“During the searches, CIK detained Shahzada Akhtar, a resident of Bugam, Kulgam, currently living at SheerenBagh, Srinagar, and her husband, Dr.Umer Farooq Bhat, who is posted at the Super Speciality Hospital, SMHS Srinagar,” the official said.
The action was registered under FIR No. 05/2025 at the CIK Police Station, Srinagar, under the NIA Act, Sections 196, 152, 351(2) of the BharatiyaNyayaSanhita, and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
According to police, the couple allegedly used their professional status and social credibility to conceal unlawful online activities. Multiple digital devices were seized during the operation, including five mobile phones, five SIM cards, a tablet, and what officials described as “incriminating digital and documentary material” relevant to the investigation. “All recovered items have been sent for forensic examination,” the official added.
Police investigations indicate that Dr.Bhat, a government employee, was involved in online activities “detrimental to public order and national security.” Meanwhile, ShahzadaAkhtar is suspected of radicalising local women through curated online and offline interactions. Her alleged links to the banned outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat are also under scrutiny. “This points to a pattern in which individuals leverage social influence and community networks to advance extremist narratives,” the official said.
He further said that investigators believe the seized devices may help identify a wider network of individuals involved in organised propaganda operations.“Crackdown on such networks will continue, and further action is likely as the investigation progresses,” the official added
