Dr Shaheen Saeed Emerges as Key JeM Operative in Delhi Red Fort Blast Probe

In a major breakthrough in the Delhi Red Fort blast investigation, authorities have identified Dr Shaheen Saeed, a medical professional from Lucknow, as a key operative of the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). According to officials, Saeed played a central role in coordinating the terror module responsible for the explosion that killed 13 people earlier this week.

Worked Secretly After Office Hours

Sources told NDTV that Dr Saeed would often speak about her “real work” beginning only after 4 pm, following her shift at the Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Faridabad. Investigators say she frequently carried a tasbih (rosary) and a hadith book, which initially appeared harmless but later raised questions about her ideological leanings.

A colleague described her as strange and non-cooperative, saying she often left the campus without permission and rarely followed institutional rules. The institute has issued a statement distancing itself from her actions and has pledged full cooperation with security agencies.

Head of JeM Women’s Wing

Intelligence agencies have identified Saeed as the head of the women’s wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed, a position that indicates deep involvement in recruitment, indoctrination, and logistics. JeM is responsible for multiple major attacks in India, including the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2019 Pulwama bombing.

White-Collar Terror Network Uncovered

Before her arrest, Saeed served as the Head of Pharmacology at Kanpur Medical College and was later transferred to Kannauj Medical College. Investigators say her high academic profile and professional background highlight a worrying trend of highly educated individuals being used in terror networks.

Two other well-qualified suspects, Dr Mujammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, were arrested earlier, confirming what officials describe as a “white-collar terrorist cell”.

Links to Multiple Cars Used for Terror Ops

Police have traced at least two vehicles directly to Dr Saeed:

  • A Maruti Swift Dzire — from which an assault rifle and ammunition were recovered.
  • A Maruti Brezza — believed to be the getaway vehicle for the terror module.

Sources said Saeed personally drove the Brezza, while Shakeel used the Dzire. Nearly 3,000 kg of explosive material was recovered from Shakeel’s residence.

A fourth vehicle, a red Ford EcoSport, was found abandoned on Wednesday. Forensic tests confirmed traces of explosive chemicals, including ammonium nitrate fuel oil, the same mixture used in the Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort.

Prime Accused Seen in Fresh CCTV Footage

Fresh CCTV footage shows Dr Umar Un Nabi, the alleged main executor of the blast, entering Delhi through the Badarpur border in an i20 car. He was seen paying cash at the toll booth before moving towards the Red Fort area, where the bomb later detonated, killing him and 13 others.

Diaries Reveal Planning Between November 8–12

Security agencies recovered diaries belonging to Umar and Dr Mujammil, which mention dates between 8 and 12 November—indicating a detailed pre-attack plan. The diaries reportedly contain the names of around 25 associates, many from Jammu and Kashmir and Faridabad.

Massive Multi-City Attack Foiled

According to intelligence inputs, the terror cell planned a series of blasts across Delhi and other regions. As many as 32 vehicles were part of the larger plan, though it remains unclear whether all were meant to carry explosives.

Probe Intensifies Across Delhi-NCR

Forensic teams from the FSL and officers from multiple central agencies continue to examine the blast site near the Red Fort. The area remains cordoned off as teams recover body parts, vehicle fragments, and explosive residues to determine the full nature of the attack.
