Congress also alleged that police limited the movement of its district presidents in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the demonstrations.

According to the party, Congress units had planned protests in several districts across the Union Territory on 9 March. The protests were organised to oppose the proposed trade deal between India and the United States.

The statement further said that a number of Congress leaders were detained in Shopian district before the protests were expected to take place.
