CBI Arrests JKAS Officer in Srinagar for Accepting ₹20,000 Bribe at Silk Factory Office

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 in Srinagar.

The officer has been identified as Sarfaraz Ahmad Bhat, posted as State Sales Tax Officer at the Silk Factory office, Solina, Srinagar. Officials said he was caught red-handed while demanding and receiving the bribe inside his office premises.

According to sources, the CBI laid a trap following a complaint and swiftly apprehended the officer. The bribe money was recovered on the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.

A formal case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to probe his involvement in other corrupt practices. Officials said the arrest reflects the CBI’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and enforce accountability among public servants.
