Light Rain and Snow Expected Over North Kashmir Tonight and into the early hours of tomorrow: J&K MeT

The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snow over the higher reaches of North Kashmir late tonight and into the early hours of tomorrow, October 24.

Speaking to KNS, Director Mukhtar Ahmed, the weather system will bring a brief spell of precipitation to elevated areas but is not expected to cause any major disruptions.

“The possibility of very light rain or light snow will be confined to higher altitudes in North Kashmir, starting late tonight and continuing into the early morning tomorrow,” said Ahmed.

He added that the weather system would likely pass quickly, with dry conditions returning soon after.

For the period from October 25 to 27, the weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain generally dry.

However, on October 28, cloudy skies are forecast, with a chance of very light rain or light snow over the higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir during the evening or night.

Dry weather is predicted to resume from October 29 through October 31, according to the MeT department.

In light of these conditions, the department has issued an advisory to farmers.

They are encouraged to continue with their harvesting activities and take necessary steps for the safe storage of harvested crops, as no significant weather disturbances are expected through the end of the month.

Ahmed emphasized that the overall weather pattern remains calm, with no major systems approaching the region until the end of October. (KNS)

The higher reaches of a famous ski-resort, Gulmarg on Thursday experienced fresh snowfall while the weatherman here has predicted dry spell till October 22.

With the day temperature continuing to settle above normal at almost all the stations across Kashmir, the weather conditions turned pleasant in the higher reaches of Gulmarg and Sinthan Top where the fresh snowfall was experienced today.

As per the forecast issued by the local Meteorological department, there is a possibility of dry weather conditions till October 22.

From 18th to 22nd October 2024, the weather would remain generally dry across the region as there is no forecast of any significant weather events during the period.

However, as per the MeT, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with the possibility of light rain in lower areas and light snow over isolated higher reaches, particularly in the evening and night on 23rd October.

From 24th to 25th October, the region will experience generally cloudy skies with a higher chance of light to moderate rain, as well as light snow in the higher altitude areas.

The weatherman predicted rainfall in fairly widespread areas, which would likely affect many areas of the region.

Meanwhile, the MeT has issued an advisory, advising the farmers to continue with their harvesting activities, ensure proper storage of harvested crops, and carry out other necessary farm operations.

“Tourists and trekkers are advised to plan their travels carefully, especially during 24th and 25th October, due to the possibility of adverse weather conditions, including rain and snow,” the advisory reads—(KNO)

Jammu and Kashmir Weather Forecast: Cloudy Skies and Intermittent Rain with Rising Night Temperatures

The weather forecast for the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir predicts partly to generally cloudy conditions with intermittent light to moderate rain at a few locations. Night temperatures have risen in most areas as of Tuesday.

A meteorological department official informed GNS that until June 7, the region is expected to experience partly to generally cloudy weather with occasional light to moderate rain or thunderstorms in several places. There is also a possibility of gusty winds in some areas. Moderate intensity showers may occur briefly in a few spots, he added.

Farmers are advised to suspend their agricultural activities on June 5 and 6 due to these weather conditions.From June 8-9, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected, followed by “generally dry” conditions from June 10-13.Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 14.8°C, slightly up from 14.4°C the previous night, which is 2.3°C above the normal for this time of year in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Qazigund experienced a minimum of 12.2°C, up from 10.4°C the previous night, which is 1.1°C above normal for this gateway town of Kashmir.Pahalgam recorded a low of 8.1°C, compared to 7.1°C the previous night, 1.5°C above the normal for this renowned resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, had a minimum of 12.8°C, slightly down from 13.2°C, but still 1.7°C above the normal.Kupwara recorded a minimum of 11.7°C, up from 10.8°C the previous night, which is 0.7°C above normal for the town.Gulmarg, a famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, saw a minimum temperature of 10.6°C, up from 9.5°C, which is 3.0°C above the normal.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was 23.7°C, down from 25.6°C the previous night, which is 1.8°C below normal for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Other temperatures recorded include Banihal at 12.2°C, Batote at 15.8°C, and Bhaderwah at 14.4°C.
