er rashid

After being released from Tihar Jail on interim bail, Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, says, “I will not let down my people. I take a pledge that I will fight PM Modi’s narrative of ‘Naya Kashmir’, which has failed totally in J&K. People have rejected whatever he did on 5th August 2019.”

He also said, “I am committed to working for the welfare of my people. We are not going to get scared. My fight is bigger than what Omar Abdullah says. His fight is for the chair, my fight is for the people. I am a victim of BJP, I will fight against PM Modi’s ideology till my last breath…I am coming to Kashmir to unite my people not to divide them.”

Ajaz Guru Brother of Afzal Guru to contest elections from Sopore

Azfal Guru’s brother, Ajaz Ahmad Guru has said that he will be contesting elections as an independent candidate from north Kashmir’s Sopore seat.Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013 after being convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack.

Ajaz Guru (58) had voluntarily retired from the Animal Husbandry department in 2014, is presently working as a contractor. Hindustan Times reported that Guru will probably submit his form on Tuesday or Wednesday. The last day for filing the nomination is Thursday.

Although he said that he has a different ideology as compared to hanged brother, he said, he will fight for those youths, who he said have been arrested in fabricated cases by the J&K police, including his son Shoaib. He said, “Shoaib was arrested nine-months ago by police in a fabricated case.”

Citing the jailed parliamentarian’s victory in recently held Lok Sabha Elections, Ajaz said that if Er Rashid’s son can campaign for their jailed father, “why can’t I campaign to prove that my son didn’t do anything wrong. He studies in Pune.”

He said, he will highlight the cases of other innocents who are in jail on false charges.

Afzal Guru was hanged and buried in Tihar on February 9, 2013, after being convicted for the 2001 attack on Parliament. He was hanged for his role, triggering mass protests in the Valley. His body was not handed over to his family in north Kashmir’s Sopore town and was instead buried inside the jail premises. Activists and people in Kashmir have been critical of the hanging.Afzal is survived by his wife who live separately in Baramulla town.

Ajaz Guru, however, said he won’t seek votes in the name of his brother. “My ideology is different. I believe that the people of Kashmir were betrayed by every political leader, some in the name of autonomy, self rule, and some in the name of ‘Azadi’. Everybody betrayed the people of Kashmir,” he said.

Sopore was considered a stronghold of separatist leader and Jamaat ideologue Syed Ali Geelani, and voters stayed away from polling in the past few decades.

That changed in the recent Lok Sabha elections, with more than 44% registering their choice in the Sopore assembly segment.

Only BJP can Restore Statehood To Jammu & Kashmir: Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah

Union Home Minister and BJP leader, Amit Shah Saturday questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and JKNC vice president Omar Abdullah over their claims of restoring statehood to J&K after they get to power in the upcoming Assembly elections in the region.

He said that he had promised on the floor of the parliament that J&K’s statehood will be restored at an “appropriate time.”Addressing a big gathering in Jammu, Shah said that JKNC’s manifesto advocates for talks with Pakistan, so “let me make it clear that there will be no talks with Pakistan until J&K becomes peaceful forever.”

While defending the central government’s move to provide reservation for Gujjar-Bakerwal and Dalit communities, Shah said that “no power can touch this reservation,” news agency KNO reported him saying.

Taking a jibe at the NC-Congress for claiming they will bring back the statehood to J&K, Shah said, “Perhaps, Rahul baba and Omar are unaware of my August 5, 2019 speech where I have clarified that statehood will be restored to J&K post polls at an appropriate time,” he said.

Shah questioned Rahul and Omar, saying “I wonder how they can bring back statehood. Can they clarify? It is the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government that can give back the statehood to J&K.”

Asking the BJP workers to come along with four families early morning and finish voting by 11:30 am. Shah asked the workers to take a pledge that they will vote against Abdullahs, Muftis and Gandhis. He also raised the slogan: “Jahan Huway Balidan Mukherji, Wo Kashmiri Hamara hai.”

Lashing out at PDP for advocating cross LoC trade, Shah claimed that the profit earned out the trade would directly go into the pockets of “terror mentors.”

Engineer Rashid’s success in parliament elections was New Delhi’s agenda: Omar Abdullah

National Conference (NC) vice president and former chief minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah Friday alleged that New Delhi was trying to silence him by fielding candidates from jails. He said the centre is hatching a deep conspiracy against the NC to keep it away from peoples’ representation.

Omar, who was addressing a public meeting in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal, accused New Delhi of fielding candidates from jails against him. “Earlier I had a feeling that New Delhi is constantly trying to keep me silent, but I didn’t think they will resort to such level of fielding candidates lodged in jails. In Baramulla they fielded a person (Er Rashid) against me who filed nomination from jail. He recorded his voice statement from jail, and got votes on emotional grounds, which led to my defeat in polls. But I didn’t take it so seriously then. I thought it was his luck and my weakness. I didn’t see it as New Delhi’s agenda,” Omar said.

He said, “When I decided to contest elections from Ganderbal seat, I heard one more person (Sarjan Barkati) who is currently lodged in jail, has pronounced his wish to contest polls from Ganderbal seat. This struck my mind. A person who hails from Zainapora Shopian is wishing to contest polls where I’m contesting was surprised me. I smelled rat in it. When I discussed the matter with my party colleagues, we decided that I will contest from another seat (Beerwah, Budgam) but maintained to keep it hidden till nomination is filled. We made an announcement about this fact at the eleventh hour. We silently reached the office of Returning Officer where we completed formalities. Soon after I came to know another man lodged in jail has decided to contest polls from there. This is not a normal affair that people lodged in jails are being fielded against me in elections. It clearly shows that New Delhi doesn’t want me to represent my people. They want to silence me, come what may,” he said.

Addressing people, the NC vice president that he always talks about your emotions, snatched rights, respect, honour, dignity and feelings. “When I put my cap before you, I’m not talking of my cap because I consider your respect as my respect and dignity. If I am fighting with New Delhi, I’m not fighting it for myself, or my family, it is a fight for your rights which have been snatched in last five years. The conspiracies made by New Delhi will fail. I have full confidence on people of Ganderbal that you will use your votes wisely on polling day,” Omar Abdullah said.

Pramod Tiwari Promises that Congress will Bring Back State Hood of J&K

Ahead of the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari asserted on Thursday that Congress will bring back Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood after coming into power in the state.

“Our leader has promised as soon as we get the opportunity, we will bring back the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference is with us in this,” said the Congress Rajya sabha member.

‘It is shocking that the status of a sensitive state on the border of the country, has been reduced to a Union Territory from the status of the state, the senior Congress leader added.

Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government’s decision of changing Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood status, he said that the decision shows the shortsightedness of the BJP.

“It was a very unjust step of the BJP towards the people of the state. This injustice by the BJP shows their short-sightedness, ” the congress leader said.

In August 2019, the government of India abrogated Article 370, effectively ending Jammu and Kashmir J&K’s special status and reorganising into two Union Territories (UTs)–Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

On Wednesday, ahead of the assembly polls in the Union Territory, the Congress released “Kya khoya, kya paya Jammu and Kashmir charge sheet sab kuch khoya, kuch nahi paya,” alleging the BJP’s betrayal over issues like unemployment, agriculture, education, health, and statehood.

The document released by the Congress targeted Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, alleging that the voice of the people in J-K is being suppressed.

“An unelected Lieutenant Governor (LG), appointed from Delhi, holds all power and, despite promises, the restoration of statehood has been denied to the proud people of J-K, treating them as second-class citizens. Outsiders are being allocated land, resources, and jobs, while the locals grapple with rising prices, high taxes, water shortages, poor electricity supply, and excessive billing through smart metres,” it said.

The document also highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir has the second-highest unemployment rate in the country, double the national average, with 65 per cent of government posts remaining vacant since 2019.

“Corruption is reportedly being encouraged from the top, starting in the LG’s own office, with mining, liquor, and construction contracts awarded to cronies. Moreover, those who attempt to expose corruption face ruthless prosecution,” the Congress’ document added.

Earlier, BJP National General Secretary and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Tarun Chugh said that Congress has played havoc within the region for the past more than 70 years.

Chugh also mentioned that the Congress, NCP, and PDP have been depriving people of Jammu and Kashmir of development and progress.

“The Congress has played havoc within the region for the past more than 70 years by playing in the hands of across-the-border forces. The Congress, in league with the NC and PDP, has been waging a proxy war in J&K to spread violence and disturbance to deprive the youth of employment opportunities. It has been a calculated design of the Congress to support divisive forces and to let down the Kashmiri pandits. There have been signals that the Congress is mostly speaking the language of the cross-border forces led by ISI,” Chugh said on Wednesday.

The first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will see 219 candidates in the fray, with voting scheduled for September 18. This will be the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.

Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8. (ANI)
