Omar Abdullah is Just Creating Unnecessary Controversy Over Restoration of statehood: Tarun Chugh

Bharatiya Janata National party (BJP) General Secretary Tarun Chugh has criticized Jamu and Kashimir CM Omar Abdullah for attempting to politicise and create controversy over restoring statehood to the region.

Speaking to ANI, Chugh said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have committed to restore statehood and he will fulfill his promise but the Jammu Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah has been doing politics continuously and has been creating unnecessary controversy.”

On October 19, the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet passed a resolution urging the Union Government to restore statehood of the Union Territory.

The Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Thursday passed a unanimous resolution for restoration of statehood in its original form.

The Cabinet has authorised CM Abdullah to take up the matter with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Government of India for restoration of statehood.

An official spokesperson said that the Chief Minister would be proceeding to New Delhi in coming days to meet the Prime Minister and Union Ministers in this regard.

In response to it, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed Parra posted on X and said, “Omar Abdullah’s first resolution on statehood is nothing less than ratification of the August 5th, 2019 decision. No resolution on Article 370 and scaling down the demand to mere statehood is a huge setback, especially after seeking votes on the promise of restoring Article 370.”

The Cabinet also decided summoning of the Legislative Assembly at Srinagar on November 4 and advised Lieutenant Governor to summon and address the Legislative Assembly.

The Council also made recommendation to the LG for appointment of Mubarik Gul as Protem Speaker who will administer oath to the elected members of the Legislative Assembly on October 21.

The NC-Congress alliance won the assembly polls in J-K held after a gap of ten years. JKNC won 42 seats while the Congress managed to win six. (ANI)

People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone questioned why the resolution was passed in secrecy by the Cabinet instead of the Assembly

Sajad Lone

After the Omar Abdullah-led Cabinet passed a resolution demanding the restoration of statehood in J&K, People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone questioned why the resolution was passed in secrecy by the Cabinet instead of the Assembly.

He contends that major issues like statehood and Article 370 should be addressed by the Assembly, as outlined in NC’s 2024 manifesto.

“Apparently the cabinet has passed a resolution on statehood. This is as per the headlines of an authentic newspaper based out of Jammu,” Sajad lone in a post on social media said, adding that in wonderment why should a resolution on statehood passed by the cabinet be shrouded in mystery and secrecy — that only one newspaper publishes it.

“I hope the CS of J and K has notified it as is the protocol,” he said, adding that and I very humbly state that will of the people of J and K is reflected in the Assembly and not in the cabinet.

He also said that cabinet is a majoritarian institution of governance. It does not reflect all shades and opinions as per the will of the people of J and K.

“All across the country, to the best of my knowledge, Assembly is the proper institution for addressing major issues like that of statehood or Article 370. When the NC Government  passed a resolution on autonomy they passed it in the Assembly not through a cabinet resolution. What has changed now,” he said”Fail to understand why this resolution should not have been reserved for Assembly. Why are we so keen to trivialise everything,” he added.

“Would have loved to see which way BJP and other parties vote on statehood and on Article 370 resolution when it is presented in the Assembly,” he said.

“And I am cutting and pasting a few lines out of the NC manifesto for 2024 Assembly elections,” sajad added. “Strive for the full implementation of the Autonomy Resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 2000,” he said.

“We strive to Restore 370-35A, and Statehood as prior to August 5 2019.

In the interim period We will endeavor to redraw the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, and the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019.
The Jammu and Kashmir assembly, in its first list of business after elections, will pass a resolution against the centre’s decision to strip the region of its statehood and special status,” he said.

“The last para says it all. We are not demanding or expecting anything extraordinary. Do what you promised the people of J and K in your manifesto,” he added.(KNS).

National Conference Senior Leader Ab Rahim Rather Likely to be Named Speaker of J&K Assembly

National Conference Senior Leader Ab Rahim Rather is likely to be appointed as the Speaker of the J&K Assembly, according to sources close to the ruling alliance.

Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that his name has come up repeatedly during internal discussions, and he appears to be the frontrunner for the position, given his experience.

Sources also said that the Congress, which had earlier said it would remain out of the ministry, took that stance after the NC did not fully accommodate their demands. However these demands are now under reconsideration. “The Congress wants their fair share, and they haven’t backed down from pushing for two ministers and the deputy speaker post,” Sources said.

M Y Tarigami, an ally in the NC-led coalition, will not be part of the new Cabinet. “Tarigami has chosen to stay out of the ministry,” sources said, adding that his focus may remain on policy and strategic guidance rather than direct ministerial involvement.

They also said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is facing a difficult task in filling the final three vacant ministerial posts because of many capable candidates within the NC and the alliance. “The pool of talent is extensive, and Omar has to strike a balance between rewarding loyalty, seniority, and regional representation,” they added.(KNS)

Omar Abdullah’s Statehood Resolution Marks a Setback for Article 370 Restoration: Waheed Para

Waheed Parra PDP

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and legislator from Pulwama, Waheed Para has criticised Omar Abdullah’s recent resolution on statehood, calling it a ratification of the August 5, 2019 decision that revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.

Para stated that the resolution, which focuses solely on the demand for statehood, represents a significant shift from earlier positions, particularly the promise to restore Article 370.

He expressed concerns that the resolution marks a setback for the political agenda that sought votes on the basis of reinstating Article 370.”Omar Abdullah’s first resolution on statehood is nothing less than ratification of the August 5th, 2019 decision. No resolution on Article 370 and scaling down the demand to mere statehood is a huge setback, especially after seeking votes on the promise of restoring Article 370,” he said in a post on X. (KNS)

ilja Mufti’s Viral Slogan ‘Zeon Ho Zeon Ho’ Takes Kashmir by Storm in 2024 Elections

iltija mufti

In the 2024 Kashmir elections, a new slogan has caught the attention of the entire region: “Zeon ho, zeon ho,” which translates to “We won, we won.” This slogan was popularised by Ilja Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, and has now become a rallying cry for supporters across Kashmir.

What makes this slogan particularly interesting is how it has spread far beyond Ilja Mufti’s political base. Supporters of rival political parties have also started using the phrase, whether to mock or challenge their opponents. The slogan has become so popular that it’s now a part of everyday conversations, and videos featuring the chant have gone viral on social media platforms.

In many of these videos, people have edited the original footage, using the slogan to troll or irritate their political opponents. The humour and enthusiasm behind “Zeon ho, zeon ho” have given it a life of its own, far beyond its initial political context. Even children are heard chanting the slogan, highlighting how deeply it has penetrated local culture in Kashmir.

It’s not just about politics anymore. The slogan has become a symbol of the election’s intense and dynamic atmosphere, reflecting the high energy and competitiveness of the 2024 Kashmir election. Whether it’s on the streets or online, “Zeon ho, zeon ho” has become the sound of the election season, leaving an indelible mark on the political landscape of the region.

As the election unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Ilja Mufti’s slogan will translate into actual victory, but one thing is certain: her slogan has already won the hearts and minds of many in Kashmir.

Article 370 Removed By Prime Minister of India after consulting Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah: MP Baramullah Er Rashid

er rashid talking media

President of Awami Ittehad Party and MP, Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid on Wednesday alleged that Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah colluded with Prime Minister Modi on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rashid asserted that PM Modi consulted with the Abdullahs before making the move. He also alleged that the BJP helped the National Conference (NC) regain power in the valley.

Engineer Rashid said, “Omar Abdullah speaks of statehood, Article 370 and 35A… Omar Abdullah is running away from 370. When PM Modi abrogated Article 370, he met Farooq Abdullah 3 days before that… After the meeting, Farooq Abdullah said that nothing was going to be abrogated but it was abrogated and Farooq and Omar Abdullah were kept in a guest house. It seems as if Farooq and Omar Abdullah were on board.

“PM Modi removed Article 370 after consulting with them. All of it was a match-fixing. There is no doubt that the BJP helped NC in coming to power,” Rashid added.

On August 2019, the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

In 2005, Engineer Rashid was arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Srinagar for allegedly supporting militants and was held for three months and 17 days. He faced charges of anti-national activities and was incarcerated in Cargo, Humhama, and Raj Bagh prisons. However, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Srinagar later dropped all charges against him on humanitarian grounds.

In August 2019, Rashid was again arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). During his incarceration, he filed his nomination for the 2024 parliamentary elections from jail and won by a margin of 204,000 votes, defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Congress Leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir Not ready to take Oath till Statehood Restored to J&K

Ghulam Ahmad Mir

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir today reiterated the party’s principal stand on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the Congress will not take the oath of office until statehood is fully restored.

Mir emphasized that this position is non-negotiable and reflects the party’s commitment to the rights of the people of J&K, he spoke exclusively to KNS.Addressing rumors suggesting discord between the Congress and its alliance partner, the National Conference (NC), over ministerial portfolios, Mir firmly dispelled such claims. “We did not contest this election for power but to restore the rights of the people. The question of ministerial posts is irrelevant at this point. Our priority remains the restoration of statehood,” Mir stated.

He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor the mandate given by the people, which Mir believes clearly indicates a desire for the return of statehood. “The people have spoken, and the Prime Minister should respect their will,” he added.

Mir also clarified that despite not taking the oath immediately, the Congress remains an integral part of the government. “We are fully aligned with our allies in the India bloc, including leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi, and we are committed to working together to achieve our collective goals,” he said. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 73 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) read with articles 239 and 239A of the Constitution of India, the Order dated the 31st October 2019 in relation to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall stand revoked immediately before the appointment of the Chief Minister under section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019,” read the official order.

This will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the reorganisation of the former state into two Union Territories.

The 90 seats in the region were contested in a three-phase election, with the results announced on October 8. NC-Congress alliance secured 48 seats, with the NC leading the alliance to victory, as the Congress won only six seats. (ANI)

Omar Abdullah, Offers Prayers at Grave of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah ahead of swearing-in

Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Jammu and Kashmir CM-designate Omar Abdullah on Wednesday offered floral tributes at the Mazar of “Sher-e-Kashmir” Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, in Srinagar.

Omar Abdullah’s grandfather, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, was the first Prime Minister of JK after its accession to India and later served as Chief Minister. Omar’s father Farooq Abdullah has been the CM of the erstwhile state thrice.

After he offered prayers Omar Abdullah said his government has a lot to do for the people of the region.

“We have a lot to do. We have to give people the hope that this is their government and they will be heard. They were not being heard for the last 5-6 years. It will be our responsibility to listen to them and act on it,.” he said

“I have some strange distinctions. I was the last chief minister to serve a full six-year term. Now I’ll be the first chief minister of the Union territory of J&K. The last distinction, as in the one of serving six years, I’m quite happy about…I hope that the status of a union territory is a temporary one. We look forward to working in cooperation with government of India to resolve the people’s problems and the best way to do that would be to start by restoring statehood to J&K, ” he added.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar and the oath of office to Abdullah along with his council of ministers will be administered by J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

This will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the former state into two Union Territories.

Omar, a former Member of Parliament was the Chief Minister of the erstwhile state between 2009-2015. He had also served as Union Minister of State for External Affairs in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s NDA government from 2001 to 2002.

Jammu and Kashmir was under the Presidential rule since 2018, after the Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew its support from the coalition government with Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Recently, the president’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir was revoked, clearing the way for the formation of a new government following the recently concluded Assembly polls in the Union Territory.

In an invitation letter shared by Omar Abdullah on X from LG Manoj Sinha, it said, “I have received a letter of 11th October, 2024 from Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, wherein it has been informed that you have been unanimously elected as Leader of the Legislature Party.”

“As separately settled, I shall administer Oath of Office and Secrecy to you, and to those recommended by you for induction as members of your Council of Ministers, at SKICC, Srinagar on 16th October 2024 at 11:30 a.m. I take this opportunity to wish you a highly productive tenure and success in your endeavors in the best interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” LG Sinha said in a letter to Omar.
