As the birth centenary celebrations for Madhu Dandavate unfolded in Mumbai, Farooq Abdullah, the three-time former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference president, took the opportunity to share a personal revelation. He disclosed that his father had endured a decade-long incarceration at the hands of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.

While acknowledging this significant chapter in his family’s history, Abdullah chose not to lay blame on Nehru. He expressed his belief that there must have been some compelling national interest guiding Nehru’s decisions during that period.

The event, dedicated to Madhu Dandavate, a five-time Member of Parliament from Maharashtra and a two-time Minister in the Central Government, witnessed the presence of senior politician Sharad Pawar. In his address, Abdullah underscored the importance of unity that transcends religious and state boundaries, proclaiming, “Ram belongs to all of us.” He urged citizens to unite for the greater good of the nation.

Emphasizing the need for cooperation and solidarity, Abdullah conveyed that collaboration across diverse segments of society is crucial for India’s progress. SKIMS Team in Super 6 at AIIMS National Medicine Quiz, Makes Institution Proud

Srinagar January 21 :  SKIMS as an Institution of excellence feels further elated at the extraordinary performance of its students at National Medicine Quiz.The team of final year postgraduates of Department  of Medicine, SKIMS comprising Dr. Sheikh Mohsin,Dr Mir Tahleel and Uzair Hilal were selected after internal round of quiz competition by Medicine Academic Committee at SKIMS to represent SKIMS Medicine at AIIMS National Medicine Quiz 2024 organised and held by AIIMS Bhopal.
The team secured first position in North zone rounds held in November 2023 and competed with shortlisted 28 Medical institutions across India on 20 th and 21st Jan 2024.
These postgraduates outscored 140 Medical colleges and premier Institutions of India and secured their place in Top 6 group.
The postgraduates were lauded by Director SKIMS Prof. Pervaiz A. Koul and congratulated them for their brilliant performance which has brought laurels not only to the Institute but for UT of J&K . Half-day announced in J&K tomorrow for Ram Temple event

Srinagar, Jan 21 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has declared half-day public holiday on Monday in view of the consecration ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
According to an order, a copy of which lies KNS the government said that half-day holiday will be observed till 2:30 pm tomorrow in Jammu and Kashmir.Ram temple grand consecration ceremony for will held tomorrow in Ayodhya. 

Baramulla figures among top Performers under ADP; NITI Aayog Report

BARAMULLA, JANUARY 20 : Under the Aspirational Districts Programme, District Baramulla has ranked among top performers under key thematic area of ‘Basic Infrastructure’ as per the report issued by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), for the month of September 2023.
Baramulla District as such has secured an additional funding of Rs. 3 crore from NITI Aayog for the developmental purposes under any of the already set 5 thematic areas viz. Education, Health and Nutrition, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development, Basic Infrastructure, and Agricultural and Water Resources.
In acknowledgment of this remarkable achievement, the Additional Secretary NITI Aayog, Vennecaganti Radha, IAS, has extended her congratulations and appreciation to the District Team responsible for execution of the programme and Central Prabhari Officers for outstanding performance.

SSP Budgam presents DGP Commendation Certificates and Medals to two officials

Police arrests 02 gamblers in Kulgam, stake money seized

Srinagar January 19 : Continuing its drive against the social crimes, Police in Kulgam have arrested 02 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.
Acting on specific information regarding gambling activities in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar, a police party headed by Incharge PP Mirbazar raided the suspected gambling site at Palpora and apprehended 02 gamblers on the spot. They have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Mir son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir and Ashiq Hussain Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan Sofi, both residents of Zadoora. Officers have seized stake money of Rs. 4500/- and a set of playing cards from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 17/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police station Qazigund and investigation has been taken up.
People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.

DGP chairs high level meeting to discuss effective implementation of new criminal laws

Jammu, January 17 : A high-level meeting to discuss road map for the effective implementation of new criminal laws viz Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya (BS), passed by the parliament recently was held at Police Headquarters Jammu under the chairmanship of the Director General of Police J&K R.R. Swain today.
In the context of the parliamentary intent behind the newly passed laws to bring about a paradigm shift in the philosophy and practice of criminal laws – from  the ‘penal code’ to ‘justice code’, the meeting discussed what is new in these laws and the changes and capacity building required in their efficient enforcement. Joint Director CBI New Delhi Viplav Kumar Choudhary gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the subject.
The DGP J&K R.R Swain while speaking on the occasion, directed for identifying the resources and tools required for effective implementation of these laws. He emphasized that the laws must be implemented in a way that ensures their effectiveness and achieve their intended objectives, directing to underline strategies including capacity building, training, technical tools so that investigation officers have the necessary skills and resources to effectively enforce the new laws and utilize modern technology in investigations.
The DGP thanked Joint Director CBI Viplav Kumar for his efforts in explaining the changes and objectives of these laws to J&K Police officers. Appreciating the fellow J&K Police officers, the DGP said that he was delighted by the kind of participation and enthusiasm with which they showed their intent in understanding and implementing these laws.
During the meeting, Joint Director, CBI, New Delhi Viplav Kumar Choudhary explained the meeting the purpose and objectives besides important features of these laws through a powerpoint presentation.

There was a thought provoking discussion on the subject and the officers gave their suggestions and discussed the effectiveness of these laws comparing them with old laws during the presentation and at the conclusion of it.
During the meeting it was observed that the laws passed by the country’s parliament include provisions which ensure that not only the accused but the victims of crime, and the society in general too receive justice, and thrust has been given to modernize the investigation process by using technology. These laws have provisions to tackle terrorism and organized crimes more effectively, and they incorporate advancements in modern and scientific technology to improve the quality of investigations besides timeline in trials.
Additionally, the laws have provisions for increased punishment in certain offenses. It has introduced new offenses, including offenses against the state, organized crime, offenses related to terrorism, mob lynching, non-reporting of rash and negligent acts, crimes of snatching, ATM theft, Ponzi schemes, and leaked question papers.

Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP, Expresses Confidence in INDIA Bloc for J&K Elections

Srinagar, Jan 17 : National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah has issued a challenge to the central government, urging it to conduct elections in Jammu and Kashmir simultaneously with the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, emphasizing the ‘one nation, one election’ concept. Abdullah questions the government’s commitment to this idea, asserting that if they cannot implement it in one state, it raises doubts about the feasibility of nationwide synchronized elections.
Expressing confidence in the INDIA bloc, led by the National Conference, Abdullah anticipates a resounding mandate in Jammu and Kashmir. He rules out the possibility of a post-poll alliance, emphasizing their preference for one-party rule.
Abdullah dismisses rumours of conflicts within the alliance, stating that no discussions have occurred with Congress regarding seat-sharing. He aims for the INDIA alliance to secure all six seats, including discussions on how to win seats currently held by the BJP.Criticizing the BJP’s decade-long rule, Abdullah questions their governance, particularly their reliance on religious appeals for electoral victories. He views this strategy as indicative of a failure after ten years in power.
Regarding the departure of young leaders from the Congress, Abdullah attributes it to the common political phenomenon and suggests that those who leave parties are best positioned to explain their motivations.
Abdullah comments on top Congress leaders not attending the Ram temple consecration, attributing it to the Congress to address, stating they have not received an invitation and won’t be attending.
On the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Abdullah and his father received an invitation from Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing their willingness to participate where feasible.
Acknowledging setbacks in the rehabilitation process of Kashmiri Pandits, Abdullah attributes the challenges to the resurgence of militancy in certain areas. He emphasizes the need for an honest assessment by the Kashmiri Pandit community and hopes for conditions conducive to their voluntary return.

BJP Tactics Could Mislead Muslim Voters: Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, Jan 17 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah appealed to the Muslim community to stay vigilant against what he referred to as the BJP’s tactics to “mislead” them in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a Gujjar and Bakarwal conference at the Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Abdullah, took a firm stance, calling on the Gujjar community not to support the BJP, asserting, “Your existence will be wiped out if you support them.” He underscored the gravity of the approaching elections, expressing concerns about potential strategies employed by the BJP to secure votes.
Abdullah pointed out that the BJP has been targeting various communities, stating, “Hindus, who considered us Pakistan, have been lured by them.” He urged different communities to unite against the BJP, framing it not merely as a matter of development but as a crucial issue of existence.
Abdullah reminisced about the efforts made by his party’s government for the upliftment of backward communities like Gujjar and Bakarwal. 
He emphasized the need for people to be proactive, stating, “It is not a matter of water or road or development… but a matter of our existence. If you don’t wake up, then we cannot help it. Our existence is at stake.”
He touched upon global issues, condemning the atrocities on Palestinians and expressing concern over the conflict in Ukraine. He advocated for peaceful relations with neighboring countries, stating, “Maintaining peaceful relations with neighboring countries is important for India’s progress.”
Looking ahead to potential governance, Abdullah promised a “healing touch” if the National Conference is voted to power in Jammu and Kashmir. He also urged citizens to consider the global scenario, stating, “Our country has been encircled. China has reached the Maldives. It is already in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Pray to God we don’t face such a situation. We want a developed, peaceful and prosperous India
